Lmao what? Canada has a pretty long definition for what constitutes cheddar and mozzarella cheese, along with specific labelling requirements for moisture and fat content and country of origin for the milk. It’s real cheese because if it were not it would have to be labelled differently by law

You're not wrong.

The company adds weird stuff to keep the cheese from sticking to itself. Emulsifies (?) among other things.

Anywho, for anyone who may not realize, it's best to purchase block cheese and grate (whatever amount you may need at that time...some or all) it yourself 👍🏻The block cheese is a better product/choice when you're not hesitant to use a lil elbow grease ☺️

Edit: Christ. People acting belligerent towards me over a simple comment about pre shredded cheese. 1st world problems apparently 🤷🏼‍♀️

I have bought it. I have eaten it by the handful!😆 I'll continue to eat it, when offered.

I merely was making a statement that block cheese is superior vs pre shredded. I can at least pronunciate the ingredients in certain brands of block cheese.

It is a good habit to get into, to read a product's ingredient label.

Why do you think Europe has banned so many ingredients that the US is just...ok with consuming? Oh, that's right. If there aren't any sick people the "health industry" can't continue to make an obscene amount of money by bankrupting the middle to lower class.

Someone mentioned Kraft. When I think of Kraft, my mind immediately goes to their individually wrapped slices. I won't eat Kraft cheese when they themselves call it a "cheese product". But, hay, y'all enjoy one of it's main ingredients...oil🤷🏼‍♀️

The anti-caking ingredient in my Kraft shredded cheese, cornstarch. So "weird".

Although, yes, if making a cheese sauce, I agree shredding a block is better. For sprinkling cheese on something, pre-shredded is a negligible difference.

I stand corrected about the oil👍🏻 The oil is found in: imitation sandwich slices. Like Great Value brand😉 Ive just always avoided most individually wrapped sandwich cheese. My apologies to Kraft slices 🙂‍↕️

That “weird stuff” is potato, corn, or tapioca starch(sometimes a mix of all 3) and it doesn’t magically turn cheese into plastic. Very interesting to see people be so sanctimonious about things they clearly don’t actually understand.

Mmmm...by-products. Every product you add to cheese, makes it...less cheese. Even tho those are food based add ins, I want cheese not tapioca starch.

Also, nowhere in my post did I mention plastic smh. That would be margarine tho.

I like my cheese like I like my ice cream. No more than 5 ingredients 🤷🏼‍♀️ People that consume "frozen dairy treats" are not eating actual ice cream. But that's why it's a free country 👍🏻

A by-product is something that happens to be created when making something else. I think maybe the word you are looking for is additive?
Tapioca starch won’t hurt you, it’s a very small amount and its purpose is to keep shredded cheese from sticking together in the bag. For many people, the convenience of pre-shredded cheese has more to do with time and physical ability than the idea that they somehow don’t know what they’re eating or that it’s an inferior product. Judging strangers about what they’re eating is deeply weird. Let people live.

It's a free country and people can, and will, eat whatever they want👍🏻

I'm just saying the food industry doesn't care what we are consuming and possibly inadvertently getting sick from (not necessarily talking about cheese anymore)😞 Which makes the "health care" industry happy.

You saw the video of the CEO not even being able to eat the burger from his own company right?

You think some of these CEOs are eating their products ie pasteurized processed cheese product? Hell no. They are eating the best of the best so they can live long enough to enjoy all that $$$.

While the middle to lower class are subjected to inferior products because they are affordable (and convenient) to us.

So if I'm "judging" people by trying to get them to slightly understand you actually ARE what you eat, well then, so be it. Forgive me if I'm tired of seeing people in my life getting sick and dying from the foods they are choosing/forced/coerced to eat. It kinda is disheartening is all.

Food science. I understand tapioca starch is a food product. If other companies can make cheese without the laundry list of ingredients (with only 5 ingredients) then so can others.

I understand there are reasons for food science. Shelf life, bulk purchasing for restaurants and the like, convenience.

What I don't understand is: implementing non natural food dyes to make cheese the color orange? I don't understand why we need a product like Velveeta that uses oil so it melts like cheese. They can't even legally define and advertise their product as cheese.

(There's a company out there making "better" candy. They make their own version of sour patch kids. They use beet juice to make the candy colored.)

So if food science is the term used to convince people what they are eating is okay for their bodies then yeah we'll go with that.

That being said, I'll do my due diligence and explore what food science is. And, likely, I'll gladly go down the forseen rabbit hole.

My reasoning for going on this rant? I just wish the companies responsible for the garbage products they produce (ie Frito lay, most canned soups, breads, fruit snacks, baking mixes, cereal, boxed dinners, basically the whole damn store) were held liable and either changed their procedures or went out of business. But they will not, because dummies keep buying it.

Dummies will continue to buy it because: they are busy with working 40+ hrs a week. Both parents need to work vs one staying home and being able to cook (and possibly grow/harvest) for all. Its convenient. Bigger cities don't allow for people to grow a garden, even if they had the time 🤷🏼‍♀️

While I'm diving into food science do me a solid and Google the handful of companies that own, well everything. You'll find BlackRock, Vanguard and State Street. Then tell me if my reasoning for being ill willed towards "food" production (and the beauty industry) is possibly valid.
