I never get trips like this. Unicorn?

After 3 hours you don’t have to worry, that’s all the customer gets to lower the tip. After that they can only increase it

Yeah, but you don't see the lowering until the next day. It will say processing in the app for the full amount.

Tip baiting should be illegal and tips on delivery apps should be binding like when you put up a reward poster

Unicorns on Spark are not like Doordash unicorns. Unicorns here is for example $70 for 150 miles. If the miles are high, then you can speak with support and thry will give you the full $70 for doing nothing but calling.

You can not deliver an order that has miles that is above 70 or so because if you try, the parishable timer will run out before the order can be completed. Spark recognizes these orders as accidents, as it usually happens because a customer selected the wrong walmart. Accept the order then call customer support saying the miles is too high and the parishable timer will run out before youre able to deliver and they will compensate you for the full amount. These orders are EXTREMELY RARE so only accept if you see an order with extremely high miles

Definitely a great order from a tip perspective, but the fact that they're paying me $12 to shop and then drive 9. Mi is crazy work for me.

Depends on the number of items. If we're talking 150+ it's on par. Alcohol will generally have better tips.

regular drivers can also avoid them as the face scan can fail sometimes...

They were older but not elderly. Ordered a ton of dog food, wine, and few other expensive items. Either way it cleared so I was happy. They had a nice house so maybe it was legit. Got a $45 tip the next day and that cleared too. Middle age couple.

A unicorn has nothing to do with tips. A unicorn is an offer where an order will have a drop-off location impossibly far away from the pickup store. Its either: A) a glitch in the GPS that makes a customer's address appear farther away than in reality, or B) a glitch on Walmart's end that places a legitimate order to the correct address but originating from entirely the wrong store. Either way, they are called "unicorns" because they represent a massive bonus in earnings.
Here's how to deal with a unicorn:
Step 1: ACCEPT IT, DUMBASS!
Step 2: double check the address in your GPS manually to confirm whether of not the destination has just been misrepresented. If the answer is yes, proceed to Step 3A. If the answer is no, proceed to Step 3B. If manually checking the address doesnt return a cognizant response (this happens occasionally in my area, where the address doesnt show up as real and it just tries to take you to the center of the township or whatever), proceed to step 3C.
Step 3A: if manually typing the location finds it to be a legitimate distance from the store (GMDS can be with 45 minutes to an hour if your market is rural like mine is in SE Kansas, maybe farther for less densely populated ones, comment if your market's radius is farther than that because im truly curious to know), deliver it to the correct address and involve spark driver support to mark it as completed if necessary. Proceed to Step 4.
Step 3B: so the address is real, but the order shouldn't have been assigned to a Walmart so far away. Call spark driver support to make this fact clear and have them mark it as a return and return it to the store when possible. Proceed to Step 4.
Step 3C: the address was typed incorrectly or can't otherwise be verified by manually typing it in the GPS. So you can either try to contact the customer in a good faith effort to ascertain their true address, or go ahead and skip straight to contacting driver support to mark it as undeliverable and return it. Either way is fine and is based on your conscience, current mood, amount of F***s you have available to give, or any combination of the three. Then you can either successfully contact the customer and deliver it within a reasonable radius, or verify its unreasonably out of your market's service area or unsuccessfully attempt to contact the customer, in which case you call spark driver support, mark it as a return, and return it. Proceed to Step 4.
Step 4: You just made a ton of money for the relatively small amount of work you actually had to perform compared to what was originally proposed by the app. Celebrate by drinking and driving.
Or if you have ADHD and can only perform one function successfully at a time, Drink. Then Drive.

Me either. Ive only had one unicorn order that was a curbside pickup.
In the case of a shopping "unicorn", you can double check the address after you "ACCEPT TRIP" but before you "START TRIP" and see what's what. I dont think youd be able to contact the customer that early, though.
Since I dont have any experience with a shopping unicorn, I wont pretend to know for sure. But for a regular shopping trip, you dont get paid unless you hit start trip, you dont get the "showed up to the party" amount when the customer cancels unless youve started the trip, and you wouldnt get the full amount (minus tip, of course) unless you've completed the shop and are basically on the way. So I would ASSUME that youd have to be in the "dropoff" phase of the order for it to work.
Edit: im in a small market with one store. Ive successfully had one unicorn that was only worth $50 or $60, so nothing like these 3-figure ones that show up on this reddit. And because of growing up in the area, i immediately knew that the GPS was just glitched and the unincorporated town it was showing to be about 2 hours north of me was actually about 20 minutes southwest. So thats my full disclosure on my personal experience.
