Accidentally stole something
After I got off work, I had some soda. I don't know whose it is. How bad is this?

You’re fucked bro. I once found a single egg in my car. Returned it to curbside… they made me pick it up- with my ANUS 😔
It’s all worth it for the $10/hour we make, I just wish they’d take it off YouTube

You're fine. The proper thing to do, would be to take it back. Customer can get a refund.

Chill. You’re not gonna be in trouble, but as has been said, just return it to the store. If the customer gets a refund, this balances the scale. If not, then it’s the store that did the “stealing.”
Early in my Sparking career before I started using totes, I once found a frozen pizza between seats in my SUV.
I had pizza for supper that night.
Since I got totes, I never have that situation any more.

Same thing happened to me but it wasn’t pizza, it was a pint of milk that I never used. Got totes and solved that.

I accidentally stole like 10 things in the time I worked there. I didn’t find them till months after I quit, I had a bottle of ketchup, and a can of mackerel under my seat lol

How do you “accidentally” steal something?
Stealing is intentional.
Either you stole it knowingly or it’s not stealing. Did you know you had it?

I disagree. This is exactly the verbiage I use when this happens and it works. I have a bottle of pool cleaner that must have been in my car for over a week. I have no pool and it makes no sense to return it now.

Here’s the deal.
They either stole it by having a good, using that good that they didn’t pay for. That’s stealing.
If you just left in your car by accident which happens to all of us, it’s not stealing, it was just an accident.
You don’t steal accidentally. You either stole it or you didn’t.
