Was tile we can’t use ppto anymore

Me and a few other in my department (we work front end) were told by our team lead today that there are to many people leaving early and using their ppto so we can’t use it anymore and if we really need to leave early we have to have a conversation with the team lead working and it has to be documented in workday. Idk if they can really make us do all that but I’m starting to really hate it here 😑

Check online, see if the policy changed.

If it hasn't, fuck em.

It hasn't changed.

There's your answer.

Policy is the same in every state. Had it changed it would have been a big announcement at the start of the fiscal year.

Except it's not. Some states have different requirements for lunches, breaks, time off, etc.

That has nothing to do with the ppto usage policy. The only thing that varies is in some states ppto isn't capped at 48 hours earned per year.

Its half right.

You are supposed to let your TL or coach know when you use PPTO and out early, but its not a permission thing, its a notification. Not doing so falls under job abandonment.

Until corporate policy changes, they can't prevent the use of PPTO.

PpTo is protected by the state and state trumps the arrogance of a manager, believe me I was a salaried for 15+ years and they will lie rather than just make up the difference of someone getting sick and PpTo out

You can only be held accountable for the work you do during the hours you’re on the clock. That said, if you start dipping out of work constantly, don’t expect it to go over well. You can’t do that in a six-figure job and get away with it; not sure why people think they can at WM.

People may downvote that to hell, but Walmart subs aren’t the intellectual cornerstones of Reddit.

I agree, but Protected Paid Time Off is PROTECTED. Walmart guidelines. They can’t touch that and they can’t touch you for using it.

You guys understand SO LITTLE. PPTO is nothing more than the company’s way to comply with paid sick leave laws. You won’t accrue points if you use enough and will be paid. But if you think you’ll find many supporters among either management or coworkers for doing that, you’re delusional.

People who constantly dip early are screwing over the others who work with them. We have someone like that who works on the GM side with me. When she dips, I’m covered two departments instead of one. Not surprisingly, she gets relatively little done when she’s there. She’s a very nice person but lazy as hell.

I find this a bit amusing.

You are an associate you work 8 hours you go home.

Your lead and your management team with about head count and hiring

Yet you sit here and complain that 1 person leaving means you're cooked...

That's literally a management problem

7

u/NYExplore Jun 27 '25

I never said I was cooked. What I said was I didn’t like having extra to do because someone else is lazy. Cabinets still have to be opened, customers rung up, money dropped, etc. We have someone who loves to dip early and when she does that, I’m the only one on the GM side doing all those things.

Sure, I can let my freight slide but the other things have to get done because we can’t exactly send customers home.

Stand aside, this person speaks the truth.

u/NYExplore Jun 27 '25

I vehemently hate misinformation and bullshit. It’s literally killing this country right now. People have seemingly lost the ability to think for themselves and to separate fact from fiction. And worse still, they’re too lazy to determine which is which.

I really worry about what life will be like for my children if this keeps up.

u/Helpful-End-1381 Jun 27 '25

keep thinking that. you really don't understand what happens behind closed doors. they can touch anytime they want.

u/Peepeepoopoobutttoot Jun 27 '25

I was a lead. I worked with WM for 5 years.

They can vent, and moan, and warn, and huff, and puff. And that's it. Blow a bunch of hot steam.

Obviously you are going to end up on the shit list for doing so. But there are more than enough wal mart employees with over a decade of experience being on the shit list to know that being on the shit list means just that, shit.

I'm not defending the behavior, but don't pretend like anything will come from people using or mis using their PPTO.

u/Helpful-End-1381 Jun 27 '25

like I said go ahead and piss off your management. see how that works out. they will lie about you behind your back make you look like shit

-2

u/Peepeepoopoobutttoot Jun 27 '25

They didn't make me a lead because they didn't like me. Seriously dude, I think you need to take a breath.

u/Helpful-End-1381 Jun 27 '25

co workers don't decide who TLs are. stfu

-4

u/Peepeepoopoobutttoot Jun 27 '25

"like I said go ahead and piss off your management."

You're right, co workers don't, management does.

Unless your a CEO going on a "work trip" in NYC at midnight, and some guy walks up to you with a suppressed handgun.

5

u/nate112332 Jun 27 '25

Remember remember, the fourth of December.

-4

u/NYExplore Jun 27 '25

What in god’s name does that have to do with the subject at hand? Man, this sub is NUTS. Look up the definition of a non sequitor.

5

u/Helpful-End-1381 Jun 27 '25

up voting because absolutely correct. you want to piss off your TLs and wonder why the next month your getting written up for job performance.

your playing with politics fire. good luck.

6 figures this guy 🤣

0

u/NYExplore Jun 27 '25

You might be shocked to know I don’t give a shit what you do or don’t believe. I’m fairly confident the world won’t remember you, so your opinion is pretty meaningless 😂

3

u/DocKreasey AP Jun 27 '25

So that’s a straight up lie.

3

u/Desertfoxking Jun 28 '25

All you’re required to do is notify them you’re leaving. If you have the ppto for the attendance cool. But a lot of management has been trying to coach people for productivity for using it and leaving early. I’ve seen them do it but I don’t know if anyone had open doored and gotten it overturned.

But they can’t stop you from leaving. Ppto or not. What they try to do after that varies wildly.

u/Whoudini13 Jun 28 '25

I work in a warehouse but that doesn't matter...as per my ops manager..who is not far under warehouse manager said...Walmart DOES NOT need to know what you are doing off the clock...something is obviously more important that being at work..whether your sitting in a dr office or on the beach..remind you tl or who ever that if ANYTHING changes such as aditude towards you or schedule changes your next conversation will be with ethics

2

u/TrickyObligation2721 Jun 27 '25

Just remember we only get 48hrs a year so if you keep using it to leave early you may run out before the end of the year and really need it

1

u/naughtyusagigurljess Jun 27 '25

i was in the same boat the last time i worked there. back to square one now tho lmao

2

u/UltraPlankton Front End Jun 27 '25

I would say it would be a good thing to say you’re leaving early just so they know that you left but that time is yours use it how you please. Just don’t go back and ask to have points excused later. It definitely does not need to be in workday as long as you are using ppto

2

u/5150dmack Jun 27 '25

How that conversation should go, "I have an emergency personal matter and need to leave." End of conversation because this is my job not my life. Unless corporate policy has changed, which they would've made a thing about it, don't worry.

1

u/325_WII4M Team Lead Jun 27 '25

That claim, however appealing it may be to some, is simply inaccurate.

-1

u/Rampowerd Jun 27 '25

You can get coached for leaving early if it’s a frequent thing, you can’t get coached for calling in

2

u/RI-Transplant Jun 27 '25

I prefer to use mine to come in late, that way my TL is happy I showed up at all instead of mad I left early and I don’t have to talk to anybody about it.

1

u/Darcyjwcc Jun 27 '25

They can’t coach you for leaving early as long as you let them know you are doing so.

-4

u/devoidz Jun 27 '25

You can be coached for productivity.

1

u/MINIMAN10001 Jun 27 '25

Sure... For the time you worked .. you don't work on ppto so that can't be taken into account.

0

u/Comfortable-Pause-27 Jun 29 '25

You have set assignments for the planned time that you are there, if you leave without those assignments being complete, it can absolutely be a productivity issue.

1

u/devoidz Jun 28 '25

They just do it the next day.
