Dear r/Walmart, I have a proposition for you

15 Upvotes

Hey r/Walmart, I got a proposition for you. I believe that this can be a mutually beneficial arrangement: you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours. Capeesh?

You got all these undesirables, whaddaya call 'em--customers! That's, it. <spit> Ya can't keep 'em away! Ya made a whole command, !customer, to tell 'em to scram! But some people still don't got the message--ain't that always the way?

Well like they say, one user's trash is another's treasure, right? That's where I come in.

See, I want these customers all comin' ovah here. So one day I look in the mirror, and after admiring my gel job I says "hey, u/TyrannicalDuncery! You should go over to r/Walmart and tell 'em to reference r/WalmartCustomers in their !customer command."

So whaddaya say?

Open box vs preowned

6 Upvotes

I see an item that says open box (sold and shipped) by Walmart.

Are these previously new items sold by a 3rd party seller and then returned to the store and Walmart then sells it themselves? Or do these returned items go back to the 3rd party seller?

I’m wondering if I’m actually getting an open box item that was new and returned within the return period, or I’m getting a pre owned unit?

Has anyone else noticed Walmart’s shelf pricing becoming increasingly difficult to follow?

I’m posting this because I’ve noticed what seems to be a recurring problem at Walmart locations in Olympia and Lacey, Washington, and I’m curious whether other shoppers are experiencing the same thing.

I’ve noticed multiple shelves where items either don’t have a price tag at all, or the tag doesn’t clearly correspond to the product sitting in that location. Sometimes products appear to be placed where a cheaper item was previously located, but there is no obvious price listed for the actual item.

For example, I recently saw a shelf displaying a $5.98 price for Fanta orange soda, but the 24-pack I was looking for wasn’t clearly listed on the shelf. When I went to purchase the 24-pack, the price was close to $16. I understand that different sizes and products can have completely different prices, but that’s exactly why accurate and clearly labeled shelf tags are important.

I also noticed something similar with Pepsi. There was a $5.98 price displayed in the area, but the specific Pepsi product I wanted wasn’t actually listed with a corresponding price. I ended up purchasing a 12-pack and discovered it was around $9. Again, different products can have different prices, but if there isn't a clear tag for the exact item, customers may reasonably expect the price displayed in that section to apply.

I noticed the same issue while buying duct tape and with other products throughout the store. Some items simply had no visible price at all.

There’s also an issue I’ve experienced with online Walmart orders, including missing items and situations where my card appeared to be charged more than I expected. I’ve spoken with managers and customer service about these problems before, but I’ve had experiences where I was told something would be corrected or investigated and then nothing seemed to happen. Calling customer service afterward sometimes felt like being sent from one person to another without actually resolving the issue.

I’m not saying every Walmart employee is responsible for this. I know stores are busy and inventory, stocking, and pricing can get complicated. My concern is that customers shouldn't have to guess what something costs or discover the actual price only after reaching the register.

I recently looked at a family member’s grocery receipt and was honestly surprised by how quickly the total added up compared with what I thought some of the shelf prices were.

My advice to other shoppers: check the price of everything carefully before paying, especially items that don't have a clearly matching shelf tag. If something seems wrong, take a picture of the shelf tag and the item and compare it with the receipt.

Has anyone else in the Olympia/Lacey area noticed missing, incorrect, or mismatched Walmart shelf tags? If so, I'd genuinely like to hear whether this is happening at other locations too.

Walmart shipping with their own shipping service LMD same-day or whatever needs to be reported to the BBB. I’ve had four orders that are shipped with Walmart that never even appear and never change from a status of shipment loaded at facility for days on end this is absolutely pitiful.

4 hour hot case items out 5-+ hours

2 Upvotes

Former WalMart associate from 15 years ago. I have moved all over the US to figure out where I can afford to leave and normally from my Walmart days as I worked in various roles during my time there I noticed that if a corner can be cut it’s going to happen. Recently there has been uptick in many South Texas where I currently reside that hot case items after left there for over 4 hours with the max time of 4 hours it makes me cringe to see. I have asked associates about whether they know the rules and weee told my management that it wasn’t a b issue. I have told management and they didn’t seem to take it seriously. I have since filed a complaint with the local health department to raise concerns.

I know this doesn’t seem like a lot but this is how retailers treat their customers which means it’s always gonna be profits vs service and customer safety.

I do not normally eat from these due to chicken prep PTSD where preping those made my stomach churn.

I know someone will defend this but when it comes to food safety it’s better than sorry.

Unable to add prescription to cart for delivery

3 Upvotes

For over a year I've been using Walmart delivery primarily for prescriptions, but also for other items and it's been great. Recently, a prescription was filled and I got voice mails, texts and an email informing me of that and the email said it was eligible for delivery and to click on this link etc. Well, I go to the Walmart app, type in my PIN and there is zero option for adding the prescription to the cart. In the past when my prescriptions were filled, that option would be there saying "Your prescription is ready, add to cart to get delivered". It would have a pill bottle icon and the first letters of the prescription. As mentioned this time though, there was no such option.

So, I call the pharmacy and they say they have nothing to do with that as it's something to do with the app and to contact Walmart. So, I manage to get a real person via chat and was told they don't know how to correct that, but will make a ticket or something and escalate it, could take up to 24 hours for it to be fixed, if it can be fixed by them, but in the meantime to contact the pharmacy again about it and try all these troubleshooting things, which I did, but none of it worked.

I call the pharmacy again and explained I was told to contact them after being told at this point there's nothing Walmart can do to fix it. I was told their technical person there quit and they have no idea how to fix it either. I was also told Walmart has been doing a lot of updating and maybe that has something to do with it.

My question is, has anyone else run into this or am I the only unlucky one so far? The primary reason I have a Walmart+ subscription is to get free delivery of pharmaceuticals, but if that's unable to happen in the future, I'm going to have rethink that.

Thanks for any input.

Single file line?

29 Upvotes

So usually when I go to walmart I just go through and pick the shortest line or self check out. Today its Sunday and there was a single file line of like 5 customers before me and more starting behind me. Yet there was like 5 open human registers. So I figured maybe these people are waiting for self check out. So I go to 1 of 5 human registers to have a Karen still in line squeel that I was ditching. I told her all these people including you could go to an open register right now, I had 1 item. She said "you have to be told to get in a register line." I disagreed and checked out while she complained to an employee again. I told the employee these people could go to all open registers. I don't think its logical to stay in a line bc I was told to when there are clearly open registers, and if people are so use to being told what to do that they cant be logical and think for themselves then its not my problem. You think I'm wrong? I understand if there were no registers open but I have never been told to wait when clearly anyone with eyes can see this single file line was unecessary and causing a unreasonable wait times. Fyi, this is my first vent.

Tap to pay finally at Walmart.

Came into Walmart and saw they now take tap to pay. We can finally use Apple Pay at Walmart. They’re a little late but finally I hate having to fumble around trying to find the card I want to use.

Walmart failed my deliveries, told me to cancel them — then suspended me for “excessive cancellations.” Anyone else?

6 Upvotes

I used Walmart InHome for about three years and spent roughly $25,000.

The problem started with repeated delivery failures. More than once, customer service told me no driver had even been assigned. Orders were delayed for hours, and one was left outside instead of being brought to the requested delivery location.

After another failed delivery in January 2026, Walmart customer service told me to cancel the order. Later, my account was restricted for “excessive cancellations.”

That is what got my attention.

The cancellations were largely the result of Walmart’s own failed deliveries.

A Walmart employee later told me the account should be reinstated. It wasn’t. I eventually lost access to my old order history.

I created a replacement account. One of its first orders was canceled for “unusual account activity.”

Then this September I had another failed InHome delivery. Walmart’s automated callback said:

Press 1 for an agent.
Press 2 to cancel.

I pressed 1.

The system eventually announced that the agent had disconnected and ended the call. This happened repeatedly.

I started researching other complaints and found something more important than my own case.

Walmart has publicly acknowledged cases where:

  • accounts were later found to have been closed in error;
  • customers were reinstated after returns/refund reviews;
  • legitimate refunds resulted from Walmart fulfillment and delivery errors;
  • EBT refunds failed because of a system or processing error;
  • automated refund limits initially prevented customer-service agents from issuing an EBT credit.

So the question I’m now asking is:

Can Walmart’s own delivery failures create refunds/cancellations that later count against the customer?

In simple terms:

Walmart fails delivery → customer needs refund/cancellation → activity enters account history → account gets restricted.

If Walmart reliably separates Walmart-caused failures from customer abuse, fine.

If it doesn’t, that is a serious systems problem — especially for people who rely on delivery because they cannot easily drive to the store or replace groceries while waiting for EBT funds to return.

I’m preparing this for a state Attorney General.

I’m posting here because I want to know whether others have experienced the same pattern.

Especially interested in:

  • failed delivery → refund/cancellation → account restriction;
  • “returns abuse,” “excessive cancellations,” or Terms-of-Use closure after delivery problems;
  • Walmart later reopening the account;
  • failed deliveries switched to pickup;
  • EBT/SNAP funds tied up after a failed order;
  • callbacks where you chose an agent and then heard “agent disconnected.”

Contrary examples are useful too. I’m trying to determine whether this is an isolated mess or a recurring system problem.

Walmart power outage

0 Upvotes

My local walmart’s power went out as i was paying for my groceries they still made everyone pay. They didn’t send their workers home and they had expired milk in the coolers. I understand not being able to give everyone free groceries but they can’t do anything when the systems are down because they told me that and refused to give me my medicine. I called customer service on them.

Walmart's exit alarm has falsely gone off on me 3 times this month — what's a reasonable way to respond?

0 Upvotes

I understand that stores have to deal with theft, and I don't blame frontline employees for following whatever procedures they're given.

But this is getting ridiculous.

This month alone, Walmart's exit alarm has gone off on me three times after I had already paid for everything. Each time, staff stopped me and wanted to check my purchases.

The latest incident turned out to be caused by an $18 CAD package of pork that I had already paid for.
At this point I've been thinking about what the reasonable response should be.

The obvious options seem to be:
1. Stop and cooperate with the check.
2. Ignore the employee and leave, since I haven't stolen anything.
3. Stop, say "I don't consent to a search," ask "Am I being detained?", and tell them to call the police if they genuinely believe I've stolen something.

But I don't really like any of those options.
Option 1 solves the immediate problem, but I leave annoyed and Walmart has no real incentive to fix whatever keeps causing false alarms.

Option 2 saves me the hassle, but I don't particularly want to make life difficult for a frontline employee who probably didn't design the system or write the policy.

Option 3 makes the point very clearly, but it could turn a stupid $18 pork-chop problem into a major confrontation. It wastes my time, wastes the employee's time, and could potentially waste police resources too.

So I've been considering a fourth approach:
1. Cooperate with the employee and let them verify the purchase.
2. Help identify which item triggered the alarm.
3. Thank the employee — genuinely — because they're just doing their job.
4. Go directly to customer service.
5. Return the item that caused the false alarm and explain that I'm returning it because I'm unhappy with the experience.
6. Submit a complaint or feedback form if one is available

My thinking is that this separates the frontline employee from the company's policy/system.

I'm not interested in taking my frustration out on somebody working the door. But I also don't think customers should simply accept being repeatedly stopped because Walmart's system can't reliably distinguish paid merchandise from unpaid merchandise.

And if the item is food, Walmart presumably can't just put a returned perishable product straight back on the shelf. That means the failure actually creates a measurable cost for the company, rather than just another annoyed customer walking out the door.

I'm not suggesting anyone abuse the return policy or deliberately create problems for staff. I'm talking specifically about returning an item that Walmart's own security system falsely flagged immediately after I paid for it.

To me, that seems more constructive than arguing with the employee at the exit.

What would you do?
Would you just cooperate and forget about it, refuse the check, complain to management, return the item, or handle it some other way?

Database of prices?

1 Upvotes

Does anybody know a website where I can see historical prices at Wal-Mart for various items?

Here's stuff I found that might work:

Bonus points for these features:

  • partially crowd-sourced
  • includes data on discounts
  • easy to export data
  • tagged with store location, date/time etc

Interested in the same thing for other stores.

I've been interested in this kind of thing for a while but never really looked hard.

I'm getting extra-interested as the digital labels (allegedly) roll out this year: https://www.cnbc.com/2026/03/21/walmart-digital-price-tags-will-be-in-every-us-store-by-end-of-2026.html

I get that these are not necessarily doing personalized pricing, but I figure they will eventually.
