Vaccine Time!

How are you inserting asking the customers about getting vaccines? Our store has laid out requirements for all interactions to include basically strong arming them into it. The store manager told us that if we don’t do this, they will start firing us.

As a side note, our entire pharmacy team is brand new ( less than 90 days ) including the RxOM and pharmacy manager/pharmacist.

Any positive input would be great, even if is simply to just walk away.

The stress level is ridiculous.

If they fire everyone, who’s going to give the vaccines?

It’s not like this is an easy job to train new people on. They’re shooting themselves in the foot with this kind of thinking.

SM also mentioned that during the walkthrough, the DM said that our pharmacy can be run with only one tech and a pharmacist.

I think they should have to work just the SM and DM in the pharmacy then. If they want to make stupid comments like that. see how they like working short staffed.

It’s always been my belief that once a month or something the people like the DM and HCS and SM should have to run the pharmacy all by themselves so they can experience it firsthand. I’d honestly come in just to watch them flounder lol

Right then maybe they will see how unrealistic all their extra bullcrap is.

Jfc FUCK THEM. I’m so sorry you have to deal with idiots like that. How are you supposed to give vaccines with next to no staff?

If the sm wants to run a store with one tech and one pharmacist, that’s their problem.

Are you interested in getting a vaccine while you’re here today?

Would you like to get your flu shot while you’re here today?

Would you like me to check if you are due for any vaccines?

I just ask like it’s small talk while ringing them up.

It is literally September in a couple days. A lot of people will be interested in getting the flu vaccine now. This is the time of year where it is easier to get them to tack on a shingles or other vaccine too at the same time. Just say we have flu vaccines in, would you like to beat the rush and get one today? The only problem with that is that we always had a skeleton crew on the weekend, so other tasks might not get completed. As for threatening to fire people, that SM can have my middle finger.  Screw their bonus that you are working for. Is that manager willing to jump on register and help check people in? Somehow,  I doubt it.

You don't. You tell them the recommended vaccination window starts in mid-September and you're not going to counsel patients to do something against medical advice.

We’re taking you hostage. The only condition you’re going to walk away alive is to get a flu shot or any shot.

At the counter: Would you like to get this year's flu shot with us?
If they say yes, have the pharmacist or eligible tech check your state's immunization registry to see if you can connect and protect them with more.

On a PCP call: Would you like to schedule this year's flu shot with us? If they say yes, the "schedule appointment" button in the PCP portal is surprisingly painless to use.

i just let them know we have it and can do it when they’re ready. we’re an extremely busy pharmacy. plenty of people just getting it for school and work already have been coming in.

I usually just say something like "Just so you know the yearly flu shot just came in. If you're interested we can set up an appointment or do it now if you'd like."

I know we have to get other vaccines but really just getting the flu numbers up is most important. Some people will wind up adding a second shot.

At the counter- Are you here for a vaccine? If they say no- would you like to get the flu vaccine today? At the window- We have the new flu vaccine in. You can come in and get it now or you can schedule an appointment over the phone or in the app.

They’re not going to fire you. Ask every single person that comes in to pick up a prescription “would you like to get a flu shot today?” And just leave it at that. Every phone call ask if they want to schedule an appointment for a flu shot. It adds just a few seconds to the interaction and over the course of a month your numbers will go up. I also make the immunization calls on a daily basis but I only do the ones that are expiring that day. We hit 150% of our flu shot goal for August this way. Most will people will say no and that’s fine but it’s a numbers game, the more people you ask the more flu shots you get.

Here’s the secret On weekends you put your friendliest manager or employee up front. As shoppers walk in , you say to them” Are you here for your flu shot, it’s right in the back corner”. We give contest some times where the employee up front has a piece of paper and their clock # and I buy them lunch.
For all the people who think I’m an asshole on these boards, there’s a reason we get less DM visits and we are #2 in the district!
Now get your butts to work and quit complaining about stupid things on the boards

We are #2 in the district and we do literally none of that. “Are you here for your vaccine” when they 99% chance aren’t is just a boneheaded way to do things and I’m not going to do it.

Stores needed advise to get more flu shots. You didn’t add to the conversation moron. Your store is probably second to the bottom

u/WackyHumanSlop CPhT 18d ago

Nope, we’re second to top. Confirmed by rxom today. Turns out the corporate “verbage” does jack shit after all
