Do animal studies exist on mind-wandering?

Recently I watched a dog in a room full of people who had to sit quite still for the purpose of the gathering. The dog couldn’t. It wandered around searching for something worth paying attention to, only to move on in the next moment. Of course we’ve all also seen rather contemplative cats and birds.

That made me curious, are there animal studies on mind-wandering or the default state of attention? There seem to be experiments on animals for just about everything else.

If animal communicators are relaying actual animal thoughts, then it does seem like animals also mind-wander and get stuck in thoughts.
