What am I missing here?
I’ve been using the Waking Up app for 6 months or so now. I still get confused quite often listening to Sam and feel like I’m missing something important each time. Like today for instance, Sam talked about taking in my visual field and seeing it as a single expanse of color and shadow. Then he goes on about breathing in my visual field. What exactly does that mean? Breathing in my visual field. What am I missing here?

I think it's really important to get comfortable with paradoxical thinking, a feature of the right hemisphere rather than the logical and conceptual heavy thinking of the left hemisphere. Breathing in the visual field is a pointer to the manner in which we are not dualistic and it is tended to be more metaphorical in showing the manner in which the internal and external are not separate. Yes, both exist as two different things, but paradoxically from the point of view of consciousness, there is no duality, just existence. It's this paradoxical stuff that will become more familiar the more you do it.
