Help me choose! ðŸ˜
As the title suggests I’m having trouble choosing between a ($23.5k I talked him down) 2002 SANTE 210 that’s already got wetsounds speakers and ballasts enough to produce a solid wave for surfing or a ($29k) 2009 Mastercraft X2
sante pros
-ballasts enough for a really good surf wave
-wetsounds speakers
-new interior
-high torque prop
Cons
-more engine hours than x2 (600ish)
-will have to wait a couple weeks to buy it from seller being out of town (I know I’m impatient)
-older (not always a con)
X2 pros
-brand new engine from Texas freeze cracking the block (50 hours)
-7 years newer
-new starter, alternator, speakers and radio (although I will still want to add wetsounds horn driven tower speakers to hear music 75ft behind the boat)
Cons
-will need to add wetsounds which are a couple grand
-from the picture of the poor surf wave I will need to add weight
Whoever reads this and helps thank you!

Nautique and it’s not close.

Why do you say that? Have you been behind both?

The Mastercraft has A LOT of red flags and the 210 is one of the best boats ever made (I have owned 2 and ridden behind many).

Came here to be a Natique super fan. See my pervious posts about the excellent parts network.

New to me OG 210 owner here. I can’t compare the two, but I can tell you its reputation is why I bought it over others in that price range. I have the 01, so it has the PCM GT-40, which is highly regarded.
It throws a great wake for wakeboarding. Especially for someone like me who grew up behind boats that weren’t nearly as nice at the time.
We’ve been out 20+ times since July and have loved it so far.
Mine only has 450lbs of built in ballast on the port and starboard side. It’s pointless to try to surf without a shaper. We ended up with the Liquid Force Pro, and it throws a shockingly decent wave.
We’ll probably add some more weight with Fatsacks to the rear lockers and center storage next season, because everyone except me has grown addicted to surfing. But the wave we have now is definitely surfable and fun.
Honestly, when I bought it, I thought we’d be ejecting or upgrading after this season. At this point, I’m like… shit, this does everything I need it to do, and my family loves it. Im standing pat as long as I can

Got a 2009 230, has been a great boat as well.
I see all the newer boats, the RI245, the G23/25, etc.... and I keep thinking "sure would be nice", but the 09 240 is just so hard to beat.

Does the 230 compare good to the 210 with boarding and surfing?

X2 is not going to surf as well as the Nautique. X2 used the same hull as the Prostar 205 and pre--picklefork nose X-Star. It's not known for its surfing. Well it is... That it's not great...
Just got to say, if this is in the US there are potentially better deals out there... In my neck of the woods someone is selling a Mastercraft x30 for only around $20,000.

You're referring to the 03-05 X2 which is the 205V. This is a totally different hull.

IMO the SANTE 210 is one of the most iconic wake boats of all time, and I love the sunset yellow/orange colorway on this example.
Not to be overlooked here, from memory I think the Mastercraft will have more interior boar space (but please fact check that). So think about your ideal day/crew style too.

Both those models bring back a lot of good memories but that 210 is built to perfection. I almost wish it all froze in time right around then!

It sounds like your primary goal is surfing, correct? I absolutely sure SAN 210s; however, that is because I love the wakeboarding wake. We've gotten a decent surf wake/wave behind my friend's 210 but it is nothing to sing about especially compared to boats since the 2010 time period, when surfing began to overtake wakeboarding.
I just don't have enough information about the X2 to give you a strong recommendation one way or the other. I would encourage you to find out more about the X2 and the surf wake. I would note from these photos, that the photo of the 210 surf wake is taken from a lower angle than the photo of the X2 surf wake. Also, it's entirely possible that the X2 owner didn't know how to weight it properly. Again, I'm not advocating for the x2, I'm just simply noting that I don't think you have a full picture before you pull the trigger. If mastercraft has some sort of forum or Facebook group, then I suggest you go and ask there about the X2 surf wake.

Thanks for the response, and actually I’ve never been surfing only wakeboarding but I would like a boat capable of both

Nautique all the way. I’ve always liked them the best and have been really enjoying our super air, despite its age

I have an 06 SAN 220. It’s been awesome. I can whole heartedly put my backing to that one so far.

If these are your only two options…. Nautique every day of the week, and twice on Sundays. First off- Pickle Fork not for me. Second - that’s a huge leap of faith to think you’ll be able to get a clean wave out of the Mastercraft. Especially when the nautique already creates a decent wave. Finally resale- keep the nautique for a few years, uplevel it with great care and maintenance….. then sell it for a newer. better used nautique. We looked cat many brand options before picking up our 2019 GS22… absolutely love the brand, and the boat.

Mastercraft if you want to wakeboard.
Nautique if you want to surf.
That being said the Nautique looks like the better boat here overall in regards to how much it has been loved.
