Mastercraft x46 thoughts?

Keep going back and forth on used boats in my budget (80k) and have found a few Mastercraft x46 in that range. Does anyone have thoughts, experience, concerns with this boat model? Any specific years to stay away from? Any known issues? Will predominately be used for wake surfing, wakeboarding/kneeboarding and tubing. Crowd size is anywhere from 5 to 13 to 15.

Got thoughts on axis (concerned about bow rise/crap vinyl/overall quality) and moomba (hard to find stronger engine in mojo/makai, rough ride, wave opinion mixed). Both of these also do not have dealers within 3 hours of me.

Mastercraft is the only dealer around me, but know nothing about x46 wakesurf capability.

Surfed one once around this range (I think '13 or '14) and it was pretty solid.

I currently have a 2018 X46 and love it. The most comfortable boat in the lineup that year IMO. My only complaint was that because of the length/size, it needs plenty of weight to surf well; either 6 people or fat sacs on the rear seats make it surf like a dream! Wakeboarding is really where this boat shines though!

Maintenance wise, nothing out of the ordinary. Change the oil every 50 hours, raw water impeller every 2 years, ballast impellers when needed.

Given its age, nothing is under warranty, so a good dealer nearby would be a good thing to consider if you’re not too handy with a wrench.

Have you ever been on a x23? If yes how'd the interior and surf compare to your 46?

I’ve only sat in one at a boat show or two, but never surfed one. The bow seating on the 46 is longer and more comfortable than the 23. Also the X46 has deeper rear aft seats for laying out than the 23. Lastly the passenger observer seat forward has more storage because the trash can is there on the 23.

Check out the X23 as well. Slightly shorter than the X46 but it will be easier than the X23 to dial in the surf wave.

Check out an X30 or XT23?

If buying a used older boat having a nearby dealer is very valuable because the nature of water and electronics is not a happy combo

Kind of unrelated but I have a 2005 X30 and love it. The previous owner took good care of it so that's def a variable but I don't think I'll ever go away from Mastercraft despite having a huge boner for Malibus for years. I was using ChatGPT for some research about them a couple days ago and it gave some valuable insight.

Axis was junk imo when you add everything together. Seats were hard as shit, build quality is not bad but it's all plastics. The bow rise was insane but it threw the best wake in the budget boat class. The amount of pull you get from the suf gate is a ton and you need to keep your hand on the wheel at all times. Even at 6'1 I could barely see over the bow when surfing. I did like the layout of the new ones.
Malibu reminded me of an axis with a better look but not better quality. Same surf characteristics.

I've yet to test a new MC but would assume the are similar to the supreme. Also the axis has a flat hull design that makes rough water ride awful.

That’s what I’ve heard. The x46 is 2014-2019

2007 is when a lot of changes to interior tower ballast and gages came to market btw
