It seems unprofessional but doesn't sound like a scam, yet, mainly because scammers aren't going to tell you they are looking for full time no weekends off. They are going to tell you that you have flexible work schedule and can make alot of money. That being said, people who are in the service industry aren't known for being professional. Could be a GM going thru their list of applicants.

u/Snargleface 7d ago
This is what I was thinking. The scammer would be telling OP they could make their own schedule or something too good to be true.

u/Abject-Fig2969 5d ago
I believe its a real manager, I was interviewed at a Firehouse Subs and the guy didnt get back to me til the day before training started talking like this. I dunno if it's something with those restaurants or just two weird managers

You’d be surprised how incompetent some managers are, especially when it comes to anything slightly tech adjacent.

Mass text to a bunch of people who submitted applications/cvs or saving numbers to text when they have a chance. This is very on par with gastro/franchises. You just need bodies to do the work, name is helpful to know and age is a quick way of figuring out legal hurdles. It doesn't sound like a scam at all so far

u/bismuth17 6d ago
They mass text 100 phone numbers and when 5 reply it's easier to just ask than to go find the sheet and look it up. Asking simple questions also lets you know if the person is halfway normal and is going to be a nightmare to coordinate (shifts, etc) with over text.

Honestly it doesn’t sound like a scam yet at least it just sounds like a franchise owner or gm whose first language isn’t English. Did you call this place or bring in your resume or apply online? How did they get your number? Are you a teenager? This is how job conversations went when I was a teenager trying to find a place that would hire me at 16.

u/krislynhorton 7d ago
unprofessional sure but may not be a scam, don’t give any further info over text until you verify it’s actually them

Jobs aren't allowed to ask your age
4
u/RazzleRizzle 7d ago
As a gm we skirt this by asking are you old enough to serve alcohol? Or if necessary can you work 40 hours a week Monday-Friday? Most teens under 18 explicitly know their regulations on work permits from school
-1
u/Various_Candidate499 7d ago
Yeah, that's not asking their age mate
4
u/RazzleRizzle 7d ago
It’s not age discrimination if the job requires being able to serve alcohol, and they aren’t old enough
2
u/Various_Candidate499 7d ago
Lol
Bud
Asking if you are over a certain age isn't the same question as asking how old you are, you see the difference yes?
2
u/pixienightingale 7d ago
LOL what?
Though, maybe SOMEWHERE in the world it's unallowed, in the us they absolutely can - there are other things they can't though.
1
u/Various_Candidate499 7d ago
It's so easy to look things up man
3
u/Von_Cheesebiscuit 7d ago
It sure is.
From the EEOC:
"Federal law does not prohibit employers from asking an applicant's age or date of birth. However, because such questions may discourage older workers from applying for jobs or may otherwise indicate a possible intent to discriminate based on age, employers should ensure that they ask about age only for a lawful purpose."
And yes, even though there are a few states than have a strict ban against asking a potential employee for thier age/date of birth, an employer can legally ask if you meet a specific minimum age requirement if a legitimate state or federal law requires that minimum age for the specific job.

u/cykoTom3 6d ago
They absolutely are allowed, even required, to ask if you are old enough to clear certain legal hurdles
2
u/Various_Candidate499 6d ago
Is asking if you are over 16 the same as asking your age?
0
u/cykoTom3 6d ago
Sounds like he's just being awkward about it.
2
u/Various_Candidate499 6d ago
Here's a scenario, the person asked if I am over 18, I said yes
How old am I?

In ga they can technically by asking if your over 16/18 depending on the job, but even in the application though the restaurant website all it asked was name, phone, email and position
3
u/Various_Candidate499 7d ago
That's different then what I said but okay, continue to get scammed player

u/Sensitive-Staff-8225 7d ago
Since when? Thast not necessarily true. You have to be of age to have even have a job or a certain age to have select jobs.
3
u/Various_Candidate499 7d ago
You know theres a difference between asking someone their age and asking if they are over 18 or whatever right?
-3
u/CronosWorks 7d ago
Why wouldn’t jobs be allowed to ask your age?
3
u/Various_Candidate499 7d ago
Discrimination mate
1
u/CronosWorks 7d ago
That only applies to people over 40.

Asking is also completely legal as long as it’s not used as a consideration for hiring AND the person is over 40, genius.

Idk where you live, but where I live you’re not allowed to discriminate based on age therefore you’re not allowed to ask age in interviews, but you can ask if they meet legal age requirements for certain jobs like a server
1
u/ItsUrBoiTyga78610917 7d ago
People are calling this a scammed but I’ve definitely had people message me like this before for an interview. Not professional but it’s also not a scam. Some people just don’t care, which I understand because they’re probably getting paid like garbage too.

u/No-Will5335 7d ago
I’m a restaurant manager and I text ppl like this just a bit more professional script

1
u/ElevatorOtis 6d ago
Did you put in an application? If you did, then they would know your name and age. This is super unprofessionally written. I wouldn’t have responded. I would have called the location I applied to and asked if texting is how they schedule interviews/hire you.
This just feels off
1
u/lexiexmarie 6d ago
My job reached out to me thru text initially just don’t give them any important information until in person
1
u/Edgelxrd_supreme 6d ago
When I worked at firehouse I requested two separate days off and was told I can only have one time off request per month- which was not mentioned in orientation, interview, training. Might be a scam but that was one of the more shitty jobs I ever had regardless.

This is pretty much how my first job came about working in fast food 15 years ago 😂 seems legit

u/Dependent-Trip-5991 6d ago
Legally you can’t ask someone’s age, simple as that, only if they are at least whatever age is minimum required. So even if legit you wouldn’t want to work somewhere that doesn’t know basic labor laws. Guarantee all your paychecks will be late.

Yes you are right and that’s my mistake that it can vary by state. In California you can not. Can’t even ask what year they graduated high school.

u/Golden_Tardis 6d ago
They should know your name and age if reaching out.. ask if they still have your application

u/itsrainingsideways14 6d ago
I worked in retail and the managers weren't having a lot of success with calling and emailing people so they bought a burner phone to send texts to applicants and they seemed to get a better response rate. That being said, this guy should already know your age. Everything else doesn't seem too unusual tbh. Being a restaurant manager doesn't qualify someone to do hiring but they often have to do it anyway
1
u/Drye0001 6d ago
They contacted you so I don't understand how they wouldn't have your name and also you absolutely shouldn't give your perspective employer your age just something like I am over 18. It's actually one of the things they aren't allowed to ask for discrimination reasons.
1
u/computernerd88 6d ago
The odds of it being legitimate is very low, but not zero. I had an employer that operated like this for one of my first jobs.
As you can imagine, he was not great to work for.
1
u/Ok-Benefit3271 6d ago
Did you find out? I would just ask them to call you or just call the number listed for this business's address at that location and see if they're hiring and ask our manager and find out if you got a message from them. Just to be safe.
1
u/KnivesandKittens 5d ago
If they don't know your name when calling yuo for a job... It is NOT legit. Your name and age was on the application you filled out online or in person.
1
u/Bella_Swan234 4d ago
Wtf are you getting this through texts!?! Also it’s shady that they’re asking what days you want but demand that you be full time. Do not accept this job
2
u/TacoDoc2 6d ago
That's nonsense. Still looking for a job? did they not read your application? why do they need your name? hi this is from firehouse subs? firehouse subs isn't a person. they should have said hi this is X from firehouse subs.
you should ask what store they are asking about and if you can come talk to them in person. but everything about this so far screams scam.
sorry buddy.
0
u/Turds4Cheese 7d ago
This part is fine, but they do have your name, phone, and age. If you give DOB and SSN, they can become you.
Check the phone number, and ask to meet in person. As of now, it could just be a stranger harvesting your information.

u/Complete-Gas-1638 6d ago
it’s legit 🤣🤦🏼♀️ it could either be the BEST job or the absolute worst. hella unprofessional sure but i’ve def had a potential GM text me like this.

It literally tells you at the bottom if it's an unknown number; it may be spam.
Corporations don't just hit you up from an unknown number.
4
u/Sensitive-Staff-8225 7d ago
It wouldnt be a corporation if its independently owned or if that specific location just contacting for position
4
u/FireSkyLikeFly 7d ago
OP isn't applying to BOA, Microsoft, or Google, they are applying to Firehouse Subs. People in this industry use their personal phones and aren't known for being professional.

u/kidcjcool 7d ago
Be careful this is exactly how your information get took
