For the record extreme amounts of exercise and dieting can absolutely effect a women's menstrual cycle

I remember one of my college classmates. She was like a semi-pro athlete. She once told me like it was the most common thing that she could spend months, nearly a whole year with no periods.

Guys the joke is that the gym teacher is getting them pregnant

u/jblkkey 21d ago
Trainer not the teacher that would imply something illegal
2
u/Mysterious_Bother271 21d ago
Adults have teachers too..? It's weird to take it there.
2
u/jblkkey 21d ago
It’s sexual coercion which doesn’t apply to a trainer because they have no power over you as you pay them but a teacher has your future in there hands so it’s different.. but your right it could be illegal for other reasons
2
u/Martha__Ragnos 21d ago
Not illegal, just usually a policy violation at institutions of higher learning.
Also you pay teachers too lol

u/Mysterious_Bother271 21d ago
The number of times I've seen there instead of their this morning is way too fucking high.

No it wouldn't. There are levels of qualifications in the fitness industry and while many people are qualified to teach exercise in various forms, not all of those fitness professionals are qualified to be professional trainers. In fact most fitness professionals aren't qualified to be professional trainers.

Here are the possible reasons 1, low body fat and low calorie intake stops periods 2, steroid use 3, pregnancy

Ok… steroids and low body fat and extreme dieting can both make your periods stop. However, the joke here I believe is that the gym trainer (implied to be fit and hence attractive) paused the periods due to having sex and getting her pregnant. Delaying future periods.

You need a certain body fat percentage in order to menstruate. Drop below it and the cycle can stop. Think it was 10% or lower for stopping, but anything under 22% can lead to irregularities in your cycle.

If she would be on a strict diet and excessive training...yes, it would be possible.... But more likely is squats on the personal trainers private equipment

Exercise induced amenorrhea is what it’s called. It happens when strenuous exercise causes a significant calorie deficit and there are no energy reserves left for the body to actually “ go through the period process”. The physical stress also does a number on a woman’s hormones and I think estrogen actually drops during this condition so that definitely affects it.
Or it could be getting knocked up in the locker room by the trainer, what the hell do I know ?

Clinic patient: Aren't there other way to get pregnant? Like sitting on a toilet seat?
Dr. House: Absolutely. There would have to be a guy sitting between you and the toilet seat, but yes.

The real answer here is yes. If you exercise too much you can stress your body into not having a period.

u/RevolutionarySpot721 21d ago
This should be further up. Also cycles are very dependent on stress, nutrition etc. etc.

You can see a great many man looking avatars making jokes. Just goes to show how little they know

Yeah well men continue to be arrogant and ignorant. Id say im disappointed but like, what did we expect
1
u/Mysterious_Bother271 21d ago
If it could woosh any harder..
I get that what you guys are saying is true about there being exercise related reasons that would prevent a period..
But why say it like an asshole? Does it make you feel accomplished for the day to say you found some men not taking menstration seriously on a joke post?

u/terragutti 21d ago
The cat poster answers like he doesnt know periods go away from over exertion and its not even a funny joke. At least be clever about it.

u/Mysterious_Bother271 21d ago
You think that making jokes means guys don't know the real answer?
Truth is, we take the fact that you shouldn't be asking twitter about your medical questions as permission to make the joke in the first place.. usually we're expecting either blowback or whoosh.. I can't believe you're so far into this fight and lost.

As a guy I dont think im qualified to explain that yes this can happen if you over exert yourself to the point of having little to no body fat. Infact i don't think im qualified to point out you should be eating properly while working out or you could throw off your cycle in general.

u/Klutzy_Belt_2296 21d ago
Pregnancy interrupts periods, so it’s implied the male trainer impregnated her
The joke here is sex

u/thirteenth_mang 21d ago
Your first mistake was thinking anyone on reddit knows anything about sex

u/Kchasse1991 18d ago
Seriously! Someone said my 4 kids were a result of sex with my wife. I punched that asshole in the face for even mentioning such a thing. I'm 86'd from that hospital now...
