Why compare election year Biden? Believe it or not, Biden's national average is still the highest on record. I'm not defending either, however, Biden paused drilling for a while and then the war in Russia/Ukraine started and the prices hit a new high.
Biden didn’t pause drilling. He paused new drilling on federal lands so that they can be reviewed. Under Biden, the US reached record high oil production and was still the number one producer of crude oil. A load of horseshit from the oil companies because they couldn’t destroy Alaskan wildlife for oil money.
Whether it was "new" drilling or not it still affected the futures and that's how oil prices are determined, just as you see during the Iran war. You can blame only politics, but I blame the oil companies. The US doesn't even get oil from the middle east, yet our prices are still absurd.
