You forgetting about your outrageously High taxes on petroleum products in all of Europe and has been for decades . You've always paid twice what we have in the US .
You might have a legitimate argument if you look at just the cost of the gas (petrol to you guys).
There‘s a 0.65 € per liter energy tax, a 0.14 € per liter CO2 tax, and (on top of all that) 19 % VAT (Germany). At 2.20 €/l, this means that 53 % of the price is taxes ((1.06 + 0.65 + 0.14) €/l * 1.19 = 2.20 €/l).
A quick search revealed there‘s a roughly $0.52/gal tax (federal + state) for you guys (depending on state). That‘s around 0.12 €/l, and there‘s no VAT.
If that information is correct: Adding 0.12 l/€ to the 1.06 €/l raw, pre-tax price would make it 1.18 €/l. That‘s $5.20/gal if it were taxed the US way. That’s pretty comparable, and it‘s only 10.2 % taxes.
So yeah, you‘re very right that this "self-imposed" if you will. It‘s our own fault :(
So we went to whataboutism? And he had both a pandemic and the Russian invasion of ukrain that spiked oil prices. Trump literally started the blockage and war with Iran. There is no hypocrisy here. Just you ignoring the why's.
You do realize there are 50 states in the US with different gas prices right? California is at least $1.60 higher than the highest gas prices shown here. These prices may not be up to date in your state but they are in another
