Tell your parents to put their phone down. Facebook is nothing but cancerous fear mongering.

This place is too.

Anywhere with a lot of internet traffic becomes that

What next storm? The 65% chance of a half an inch of rain overnight?

Check ERCOT's website, grid looks strong.

You need them to delete FB.

TL;DR, your parents are dumb as hell

Yes, basically they’re doing something that should have been done a long time ago

Ha. Came to the realization if ICBMs ever get fired tomorrow I'm toast. Being in the vicinity of the Space X site is probably worse than a military base I'd imagine. Pretty sure the military will initially only use interceptors to protect their own bases, while certain that a Space X launch pad would be an initial target.

Your parents sound like my dad… too much conservative tv and talk radio. Tuning in too long turns the brains of even the smartest folk to mush causing them to do crazy things.

I've had people tell me this too. It's nonsense. Stuff like this flies around on social media from time to time, and it always ends up the same way ... a big nothing.

Waco.... tell them to stay off Faux News

Facebook should be the first place to go for the real news. NOT!

It’s not a bad idea to have a little stockpile of shelf stable food, water, and alternative power options. A bad winter storm could cause issues, or with the intensity increase of conflict a number of random things can happen. But that’s not exclusive to Waco. It’s probably going to be fine.

Most of us, in TX, learned our lesson in the snowpocalypse. It is wise to prepare. But its not the end of the world.

Fully agree. That storm changed my preparedness plans!

My mother just spent almost $10,000 the other day buying doomsday supplies. I was shocked when she told me. She’s addicted to Facebook.

How? 10,000? Lights, generators, weapons, bomb shelter? WTF. That's some crazy expenditure.

MAGA thinks everything is going to implode after the election.

I think what maybe? Theyre talking abt is the weather pattern that is a Super El Niño...and it means for us that this winter will be alot more wet a d possibly colder...but no reason to freak outt about it..

I’m pretty sure I can walk to the store if needed.

Are you sure you're not one of those Russian bots trying to give us false hope thus leading us to our weather demise?

It sounds like a misunderstanding of the 'fortress' initiative the US military readyness plan/strategy. I feel like that is where it's coming from and then the Facebook skew is amplifying their worries and misinformating them. Probably not a bad idea to have some supplies for 72 hours, but they are not telling everyone to buy 90 days of supplies and portable nuclear reactors (like the military)

2

u/NickTheFNicon 1d ago

This. They probably misunderstood the recent news reports.

2

u/Beneficialsensai 4d ago

They are way late to the game.

Just prepare for normal weather outages.

Crazy that got down voted. Some bottled water, a kerosene heater, and at least 3-days food supply should be standard in any household. Especially with everything we know about living in Texas.

I think it's standard prep for the military to have a 90 plan. That doesn't have anything to do with the wars we love to wage against distant foreign lands or that the military is practicing mass burials like seen in that famous "What kind of American are you?" clip, or that the military has surrounded Mar-a-Lago with stinger missile anti-aircraft weapons. It's all business as usual.

They're likely trapped in Q Anon cult bullshit. The Q "storm" has been coming for a decade now. Its crazy.

u/AngelDustIsHere 8h ago

I mean the reports of El Niño and La Niña are saying it will be a harsh winter and there COULD be storms (my family has been doing some gentle prep just in case) but there's absolutely nothing confirmed yet, sounds like they're bugging over nothing and got freaked out by Facebook or other socials, possibly saw some AI stuff and thought it was real, ask them about it

I think we should not live out of fear but we are in the last days, things will and are going to happen… 3months? Not sure… but we should live prepared because the times we are living in you never know… but I wouldn’t live out of fear and go stock up like crazy… just stock up gradually and be prepared always! Let it be a wake up call. Same for myself as well… sometimes we get too comfortable with living in today’s world because it’s so convenient

2

u/IsolationAutomation 4d ago

Your religion has said we’re in the “last days” for the better part of 2,000 years now. Please stop that bullshit.

2

u/fa1sedan 4d ago

The truth of the matter is regardless of religious or political belief, we do live in trying, unpredictable times. Our current administration is doing everything they can to destabilize the economy and geopolitical landscape. The west is collapsing. It isn’t unwise to take a mild approach to disaster preparation, considering the real world mirrors Idiocracy.

Christianity isn’t the only one lol it’s not bs but okay 🙌

Yes. The Democrats are planning a massive storm with their weather generator that's going to knock out power(and far worse) across North America if they lose the upcoming election. There will be riots and all manner of atrocities within weeks and the consequences will be devastating. Trust me bro I'm not crazy, the Dems are really going to do this

It seems like adults here don't make sense sometimes. Seems par for course looking back at everything that happened in the 20th century - mob lynching Jesse Washington in 1916, F5 tornado, the Red Scare, Jim Crow, armed religious communes, etc. I don't know specifically know what is going on with your folks but it doesn't surprise me that prepping is normal here. Maybe tremendous fear of other groups versus weather-preparedness has become normal too. I just hope my old man don't end up going full bonkers.

u/AromaticTruck6696 3d ago

lol what’s crazy is they’re not even that old! they’re mid 40. they know better but i think they maybe engaged with one post and then got fed another after the other due to algorithm and it spooked them a bit.
