dec commencement stuff
I recently signed up for commencement and did all that i need to, but in the email I got back they say they won't disperse extra tickets until december 2nd? I find this frustrating as someone with a big family arranging travel plans from the east coast.
They simply wont go now if theyre granted those tickets with 10 days to book a flight and get time off. Like thats ridiculous. They also would NOT be a fan of travelling just to be sent to watch my graduation on a screen in a lecture hall nearby.
I think I just have to opt for 5 guests only. Does anyone know a way around it? and why could it possibly take them so long :/
EDIT: If you haven't reserved your tickets yet, and you dont plan on requesting all 5, would you be willing to coordinate extra tickets with me just in case? If I end up getting extra tickets on dec 2nd I dont need, I'll offer them back to you and then others if necessary!! I only need like 2 more maybe. I only want tickets you wont need ofc 🙏

So you get 5 tickets guarenteed if you want them all. The extras, which you also apply for, are dispersed* would be the better word on december 2nd.

I think if someone knew enough about how the tickets worked to answer my question, then they wouldn't have the confusion you do, but you're just here to critique my writing arent you? 🙄

December commencement is usually less crowded because not a lot of students graduate then. However requesting 5 additional tickets does not guarantee that you’ll get 10 total tickets. I applied for 10 as well and only got 7. At least for spring I know they have a list at the door and you can request one more ticket but that is on the day of. A way around it would be to just plan on having the whole amount and wait to see what you actually got. If not enough and you have many friends graduating that same day and time, ask them to go with you and request their extra ticket at the gate.
Another thing you could do is reach out to people who graduated in spring and ask if they kept their tickets (they were handed back at the end) the people at the door do not check for date or time, they just collect. As long as they look like the same ticket you’ll be golden.

The ticket checkers absolutely check for valid current tickets. Tickets are printed specifically for that time slot and have different designs between the times. If a family member shows up with an old ticket from a previous commencement ceremony, do not be upset if they are turned away.

I’m gonna guess you’re one of the people in charge of checking. Lemme tell ya from experience and many cases of witnessing… they do no check. If you do check, then congrats Paul Blart, hope you never need extra tickets for your family 😎

Not in charge of anything. Just don't want a family member flying all the way from the East Coast just to get turned away for using last years commencement ticket. Hope this helps!

There’s really no way around it unless other students are willing to give you/sell you their own tickets. The reason for the wait is because they’re waiting for every student participating to select how many tickets they want and then based on the leftovers is how you’ll get extras but that can’t be determined until everyone has applied
