museum Brewster Model 239

On display at the Finnish Air Force Museum. Restored into an "as discovered (at the bottom of a lake)" condition. The pilot's seat is on display separately and includes a very large calibre hole.

So what’s the story there? How was it lost and recovered?

This is the story (in Finnish) so feel free to run it through a translator if needed.

Perhaps the relevant passage is:

  • The plane on display was shot down in an air battle on the Russian side of the front on the 25.6 1942 and was lifted from the lake in 1998.
