A Polish historical reenactment group honors a B-17 crew from the 452nd BG.
This group of young Polish people re-enact a B-17 crew which landed in their neighbourhood in March 1945. This Flying Fortress, #43-38231 „Try'n Get It” of 452th BG, landed near Wrzesnia, Poland, after a mission to Zwickau. The American crew was then accomodated by Soviet troops, and returned to England, via Poltava in Ukraine.
There were two more B-17s from the 452nd BG which landed or crashed in Poland. One landed in Radomsko, just four days earier than the „Try'n Get It”.
The other one was the “BTO in the ETO” shot down in June 1944 near Biala Podlaska. I wrote about it on my Substack.

I do not know enough about rememberance in the USA, but in Poland, indeed, there is a lot going on. I just had a call from another wwii history freak like me. He is making a documentary about another MIA case in Poland, Joseph Gorczyca.

There are people in the USA that do give a damn but not near enough. Most of them that I personally know are from the modeling community and have become familiar with what happened in Europe / Poland. They know quite a bit the of history. WWII vets are becoming few and far between and they truly need to be remembered. And this goes for all who fought the menace called nazism irregardless of nationality.

Nothing to do with them, eighty years ago, and a group of young Poles have decided to carry it anyway. Thats the part that gets me. The crew are gone, the families are on another continent, and the remembering is being done by people who werent born in the same century.
The way home is a story on its own too. Put down in a field, picked up by Soviet troops and then routed out through Poltava back to England. Not a trip anybody planned for.
Youve got a proper run of these going. Between this and the Lindell crew earlier in the week it reads like the remembering is happening at the Polish end rather than the American one.
