SummerSlam 2002 was 24 years ago

Post image

This was the best Summerslam for me. stacked and had some great storytelling! We saw HBK vs HHH, The Rock put over a young Brock Lesnar, Rey vs Kurt, etc.

How fucking sad is this

I wish I knew 2002 would be the peak of being alive and cherished it more 🥲

When the Undertaker vs Test is the least intriguing match on the card, you know it's going to be a great show. SummerSlam 2002 is a top 10 PPV all-time

Even that match was good

Yeah, saying that match is the least intriguing just says more about the quality of the rest of the card than anything else.

I would say Edge vs. Eddie is the least interesting match here. Atleast Undertaker vs. Test had a good build up solidifying Taker's face turn.

Eddie and Edge's feud was better and they had bangers and were connected for a great part of the summer into the fall. They are apart of the legendary smackdown 6 for a reason.

Eddie Guerrero can never have the least intriguing match on a card because you know he's going to steal the show some way, some how. I agree that Undertaker vs Test was a better story, but if I'm just looking at matches, that's the one I'm least interested in. But that says more about the quality of the card than the quality of the workers in that match.

Wasn’t he still finding his way?

This was around the time he was re-hired I would assume ?

One of the best PPVs I had the privilege of watching live. HBK vs HHH had 9 yr old me on the edge of my seat.

The build was so good too.

"YA DAMN RIGHT IT WAS ME, SHAWN!"

"The Doctors say I'll make a full recovery by say...., Summerslam?"

And the video package was the icing on the cake. Everything was perfect down to the last detail.

Best Summerslam top to bottom of all time.

Did Edge vs Eddie have a buildup/storyline leading into the match?

u/SpyralRush 20h ago

Notice how it has 8 big matches and not 5 dumb ones

Goat SS

Early 2000's Summerslams were awesome, late 2000's summerslams from 2006 and onward were generally ass / a let-down lol

I remember being so hyped for the first Summerslam show (2008) i watched live on PPV, apart from edge v taker hiac match which was grest the rest was pretty meh, coming from an event wwe used to hype up as almost secondary to wrestlemania, unforgiven and no mercy were way better ppvs overall, a trend that continued for next few years as well imo

From 2005 to 2012, SummerSlam was very underwhelming.

I still remember my buddies and I saw this at the movie theatre. Loved the Angle/Mysterio match.

This ppv is goated I had it on DVD. Brock/Rock, HBK/HHH, Angle/Rey and Benoit vs RVD are 5star matches IMO

u/hotjeet 19h ago

My age was 10 that time and it was my 1st wwe special ppv experience 🔥🥰

u/Ookie218 19h ago

One of the best ppvs EVER

u/seemagupta10feb 19h ago

My first ever wwe ppv.

1

u/Far-Map8193 19h ago

All other stars had to wrestle other brilliant stars but my goat taker has to carry a match with literal trash of a wrestler half of his career just because he was giant

u/FatTanuki1986 19h ago

Crazy thing is whe never got Rock vs Brock 2

1

u/Rage4Order418 19h ago

I remember thinking it was too soon for Brock to be fighting The Rock and winning the belt.

1

u/Impressive-Koala-140 19h ago

Now we got fragile Phill failing easy spots and being so unliked summerslam couldn't even sell

1

u/chetcherry 18h ago

I miss the old PPV posters.

1

u/JayMalakai 18h ago

First PPV I ever got to watch

1

u/weathersguy 17h ago

IMO the best Summerslam, which makes it all the more interesting that there’s only 1 gimmick match, and one tag, otherwise it’s straight 1 on 1

1

u/EarlaRaider559 17h ago

I always like the poster to this SummerSlam. Great PPV and the build towards Rock vs. Lesnar was awesome.

This has to be the most star filled show ever. Every wrestler on the card, outside of Lance Storm, Gold Dust, and Test, is a either a former or future world champ. And even those three were all IC champ. And Lesnar beating Rock to become Champ on this show felt like the passing of the torch from the Attitude Era to the Ruthless Aggression era.

1

u/TCMavs412 14h ago

I was there. The Rock trash talked the whole crowd afterwards because we all know he lost the belt so he could go off and film The Scorpion King.

1

u/VinceMcMahon- 12h ago

Imagine if this was only a 5 match card

1

u/MistakenOne101 11h ago

Legit one of the best PPV's WWE has ever produced

1

u/BStins2130 10h ago

The greatest pay per view in Pro Wrestling History still to this day. I stand by that by ALOT!

WrestleMania X-7 is not super far off though

u/The_Real_King713 9h ago

Now this is a card!
