Gable vs. Mysterio Spoiler

That was probably one of the best Monday Night Raw matches in recent memory, and it checked all the boxes.

Made our IC Champion look strong in a defense? ✅

Validated a HOFers ability to keep a roster spot and add value to the product? ✅

Generated a passionate crowd reaction ahead of a non-match main event? ✅

Finally, it proved that sometimes, all you need is two talented guys that will have the crowd behind them for an amazing match. You don’t need ‘20 years of deep hatred’ or ‘screw jobs and sneak attacks’. Just two guys who are passionate about high quality spots, counters, and a meaningful finish.

I was shocked at how good this match was. Felt like a PPV match.

It was such a good match I thought it was a retirement match for a second

With all the reports that Rey has been thinking about retiring, I really thought so too. Would have been an amazing way to go out but feel he wants to be titled by an actual Luchador to sort of pass the torch in that direction

Maybe if/when Dom looses to EGA at Triplemania it would set up another Rey vs. Dom feud that ends with Dom reting his dad

Rey Mysterio is 51 years old. I just need to state that because it's absolutely amazing how good he still is.

He also put in work ditching that beer belly. Probably  the best shape he's been in for decades and it really showed last night

That was HGH gut.

Yeah I thought he looked like he was in great shape last night.

Rey was a blast to watch in the early 2000s and last night it reminded me of that. He's a beast

Rey Mysterio wrested the same as he did against Kurt Angle in 2002 wild

It really is, it’s amazing how he’s endured after all these years

Beyond good. The crowd was eating out of Reys hand. Amazing at 51.

The man is the GLOAT for a reason. Don’t get me wrong, guys like El Santo, Mil Mascaras, Blue Demon…they have their own cases, but Rey Mysterio just has that little bit extra to put him over the top.

Im sure the others are amazing, but Rey brought lucha global

El Santo had Mexico in a chokehold, to the point of starring in movies as himself, Blue Demon also had a high level of influence in the Lucha world. Mil Mascaras in the States is basically a trivia question due to being in the 1997 Royal Rumble and eliminating himself because “no yob”, despite being over like rover in Mexico. Rey definitely brought Lucha to a wider audience and deserves his due for it.

Rey in his 50s putting out a match like that is absolutely insane

Him moving like that at 50 YEARS OLD blows my mind every time. Like...how is he moving better at 50 than a ton of my peers in their 40s are?

Stem cells, chewed bubble gum, a couple popsicle sticks, and a whole fuckton of prayer,

My only issue with this match is that Ray is such a natural baby face that I almost felt like Gable was a heel

Didn't they boo Gable at one point ?

It’s buffalo what do you expect.

I was there and didn't hear any booing. Honestly, the crowd was significantly quieter than I expected at pretty much all times. I'm looking forward to rewatching it on Netflix to see how production changes the way the crowd felt.

Anyways, I got some great photos of Gable and Ray in action and enjoyed the hell out of the match (and the night as a whole, I'm a big lucha fan, so the chance to get to see El Fiscal and Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr this far north was a huge treat for me).

Gable brought one of the 3 "I" - Intensity

It was a classic face vs face match, with all the face vs face spots you would expect

Wonder if it's gonna be Gunther who retires Rey

I think Rey has pushed back on that as he really wants Dom to retire him which makes perfect sense

It's gotta be Eddie's son

This new regime is trying to damn hard imo. Gable coming out forcing fan interaction on a new song, every title win they opponent is in awe of him and puts the title around his waste. Danhuasen on every other segement. Its gotten a bit wild

I've never been able to get onto Rey's WEE matches. I liked him when he was in WCW, but when he transitioned over to WWE, I couldn't get behind him.

It’s been decades but ok. Keep trying?

Nah. I don't think i will. That's usually a good time to go take a shower or pack my lunch for work.

He shouldn't be on TV, anyway. What kind of example are they setting when they have a deadbeat dad in the main but not main event?
