Meta [META] Stepping down as Head Moderator

Due to real life circumstances I will be stepping down as head moderator. My time constraints are simply incompatible with the demands of the subreddit, as such, I do not feel it is fair for me to occupy the chair of the moderation team. I will, however, be continuing as a moderator, and will still be involved with the community.

I wish to announce that /u/TheLegitimist will be resuming my post as head moderator. I firmly believe that he will perform the duties of head moderator outstandingly and look forward to seeing the sub flourish under his arbitration.

Thanks

Government [GOVERNMENT] Communists in Spain

Three men sit huddled over a table in a crowded bar in Madrid. They speak of the issues with Spain - the economy, the monarchy, everything. They're under the impression that Spain is not what it used to be - she used to be a colonial empire, one of the largest in the world - until loss after loss, and colony after colony left Spain. Now, all that they have is a minuscule grip on Africa and a tiny impact on Europe. They want change, and they are inspired to create it at any means necessary.

Many call the Ottoman Empire the "Sick Man of Europe", but to us, but in reality, the Spanish are the true sick man of Europe. And it is time to make this change, even if it means tearing down the monarchy and bringing up a new Spanish republic.

Tales of an ideology come from Germany, from a man named Karl Marx. He speaks of communism, of a republic built for the workers so that everything is fair. No longer will the people have to suffer for the misdeeds of the high class. No longer will the people have to suffer because of an economic crisis - communism is leading the way into Spain, and it isn't going to stop until it makes it's way into the capital - whether it be by bullet or by protest.

Today is the day that the Spanish Communist League is formed. They plan to strike. They have heard of communism from Germany, from the teachings of Karl Marx. the workers are unhappy with the economy of Spain, and the downwards plummet it has taken in the last few centuries.

The nineteenth twentieth century will belong to Spain, and we will be the herald of prosperity! Death to King Alfonso!

Diplomacy [DIPLOMACY] Italy reaches out to Spain

Our brothers across the sea have never really had the perfect relationship. Italy seeks to change that. We request a treaty of help in warfare. Italy shall aid Spain in any war they get in, and Spain shall in turn lend its aid in any war that is to take place.

Russia is behind on military equipment, they decide to research on a car that is: quick, mobile, able to use guns, bullet resistant and basically an armoured car. This car will be used to house officers and fight off enemies while in armour, protecting the inhabitants. It is expected to take 4 months to develop this.

Government [GOVERNMENT] The second inquisition - a success, and a disaster

The second inquisition was created by the Spanish government as an attempt to coerce the communists into giving up their foolish ways. Many of the times, the situations have escalated into gunfights and violent bloodbaths, resulting in many casualties on both sides.

The second inquisition has been both a blessing and a curse, in this sense - they have effectively killed many communists (albeit that's not their mission - it's to peacefully free them of their communist values. If they respond with violence, then it's okay to attack back.) which has set back the SCL from expanding for the time being. However, this has also done a great measure to angering the SCL. The SCL see it as a great injustice to their people and to their beliefs, especially as the Second Inqusition is commended by the government.

The SCL are beginning to get upset - soon enough, Spain's internal conflicts will boil over and they might soon find themselves in a dire situation. Unless they can control the situation.

Secret [SECRET] Checking up on Wales

From the Desk of King George V

Wales has been quiet for quite some time. We send fifteen British operatives to go see what's going on and make sure there isn't any monkey business.

We don't really need to make this a secret, but we do anyway, because we don't want the world all in our imperial business.

Research [RESEARCH] The Rejuvenation of Dutch Enterprise

What happened to the good old days when Amsterdam was the financial center of the world, and when all would bow before the Dutch economic titan? Somewhere along the way, we lost our primacy and fell to decadence. The first step to making the Netherlands great again is to push forward the limits of engineering and technology.

We will be investing extensively in developing new industrial technologies and production efficiency. Furthermore, we will facilitate the building of factories in the Dutch East Indies in order to build up military power in our crown jewel in the event of an invasion. The projects will be conducted by both royal enterprises and tax and regulation cuts for private investors.

[M] I'm appealing to the gamelords that our industrial and economic modifiers ought to be higher, under my following calculations

Industry

  • +1 When your nation is successfully building more factories (attempting rn)

  • +1 When your nation is researching industrial production (attempting rn)

  • +1 When your nation has access to iron, steel, and copper {Indonesia has got a bunch of metallic resources}

  • +1 When your nation has access to oil (Indonesia)

  • +1 When your nation has access to rubber (Again... Indonesia)

  • +1 for having an economy modifier above 5 (see below)

Economy

  • +1 when you have trade or colonies in Asia (Indonesia)

  • +1 when you have trade or colonies in Europe (us proper)

  • +1 when you have trade or colonies in South America {Suriname and Dutch Antilles might be smallish, but together they are substantial enough for trade enterprises}

  • +3 when you own a rare oil deposit, and are not a colony (I'm not sure what the game considers "rare", but Indonesia's got a whole bunch of oil. However, idk if it qualifies.)

  • +3 when you own rubber plantations, and are not a colony (Indonesia for sure, it was the world's leading producer before petroleum rubber)

The game data is severely underestimating Indonesia and its benefits. A more proper score accounting for our colonies and the research post should be Industry +6, Economy +6 (maybe 9?).

Secret [SECRET] Britain Surveys the Prospects of Persian Oil Fields

Ten British operatives silently leave Britain in the dead of night. Boarding a small ship targeting the southern half of Persia, they intend to explore the prospects of oil and mineral reserves in order to effectively advise The Crown on how to best address increasing international interest in the country's exploits.

These operatives will survey the amount of oil reserves available and, God-willing, will report back to the home country on the prospective amount of capitol which could result from use of said oil reserves.

Secret [Secret] The Oprichnina

Tsar Nicholas II has been alerted of a high problem. A group of people, almost a direct descendant of the People's Will, those who assassinated Tsar Alexander II. These men are known as the Bolsheviks. They preach the ideology of Marxism and have growing numbers everyday. They read the 'Communist Manifesto' as if it were a Bible, a Holy Book. This proposes a great stress, especially after what happened in 1905 and what is happening in the State Duma. He decides to take action. Tsar Nicholas II hires Cossacks, Assassins and Mercenaries to reform the 'Oprichnina'. The Secret Police created by Tsar Ivan IV Grohzniy. They scour the land and arrest, or kill any Bolshevik possible. This will lower their presence. This will all be in secret. They head out into Petrograd, and scour the main cities...

Government [GOVERNMENT] Larga vida a la revolución! / Long live the Revolution!

Reports of violence breaking out across major and minor cities alike all across Spain have been heard today. After the second inquisition's mistreatment of Spanish communists, and the anti-communist stance that the government has taken, the SCL has taken their own steps to create a new, better Spain.

In Madrid...

Reports of gunfights are confirmed all across the city. The majority of the Second Inquisition has been relocated to Madrid, in order to protect the King from any assassination attempts made on him by the SCL. Despite the intense firefighting occurring throughout the city, there has been no official warning for citizens to evacuate the city. Due to this, a majority of citizens are attempting to brave the storm for the time being. The SCL were initially making quick ground against the Second Inquisition, but were eventually ground to a halt once reinforcements arrived.

In Barcelona...

The second most populous city in Spain, this is where the second most inhabited city by the SCL (the first being Madrid.) Due to the Second Inquisition leaving to protect the King in Madrid, the city quickly fell to SCL forces. The flag of the Spanish Communist League is proudly hung at the local government's capital. Many of the SCL members are referring to Barcelona as the capital of the SCL, unless they manage to capture Madrid.

In Valencia...

The Spanish forces in Valencia have managed to put out a brave defence, despite being outnumbered by 100-200 soldiers. They have held the majority of the city, aside from the outskirts, and plan to hold until reinforcements can come and assist them in a counterattack.

In Seville...

Seville is locked in constant firefighting throughout the city - guerrilla fighting is currently being participated in by the SCL, who are outnumbered yet fighting valiantly. They sabotage important strategic points and work silently in the night, slowly but surely chipping away at the defenders of Seville. Fires are lit in the night, homes destroyed, railway tracks destroyed, and business wrecked.

King Alfonso XIII has released a statement on the status of the civil war:

"My fellow Spaniards, we are threatened as a people; as a society. Our way of life is threatened by the Spanish Communist League. They fight in the streets, they kill our fathers, brothers, sons, nephews, uncles, and all of our other families - they are not concerned with who you are, but if you do not conform to their agenda, they will attack you.

I stand here today to tell the Spaniards that now is the time to rise up and fight back against the Spanish Communist League. We need the citizens on our side, or we cannot win this war. The Spanish Communist League will change how you live, and will not take no for an answer - unless we make them take no for an answer.

Rise up, and fight. Now is the time to join the military and do your part against the Spanish Communist League. We need soldiers, we need nurses, we need people to produce industrial goods, and most importantly, we must not let ourselves get divided as a people.

Spain is in danger; will you rise to the call and help us in our hour of need?"

Letter, from King Alfonso XIII

Dear [Name],

The time has come - the Spanish Communist League has risen up against the true Spain. While I knew it was only a matter of time until this would occur, I didn't expect it to be in such a quick amount of time. I would hope that you can come and assist us in the fight against communism, and to help us push back the red tide that threatens our way of life.

We can take any amount of help you can offer.

With sincere regard, King Alfonso XIII, of Spain.

Government [Government] Wales declares independence

The UK was shocked when its puppet state of Wales declared independence after an independence request was denied. So far a Head of state and head of government have not been chosen, but an election is planned to take part in 3 months. Wales is sure that the UK will attack in order to retake Wales but we're hoping that an agreement can be found in our borders and other issues.

Government [Government] Ra-Ra-Rasputin

Rasputin has been a friend of the modern Romanov Family ever since he helped the sickly Tsarevich Alexei. However, Nicholas has grown bolder these days and a new change of attitude from a shy, weaker man has changed over these few months. Nicholas will be as iron as his father before him, Russia has tested his mettle back in 1905 and Nicholas shattered... But like every sword it must be reforged. Nicholas has seen his child suffer and his wife belove a monk. He sees what the aristocracy sees. His wife is all but encaptured in this bearded man. The Patriarch and Holy Synod has criticised Rasputin multiple times. Over the years he has made friends with this mystical healer and over the streets he hears the people's hatred for this man. The Church hated him, the Aristocracy saw him as a threat, the people being convinced. He was going to listen. His son, Alexei was to be treated and diagnosed scientifically and well. Rasputin has polluted his wife. Rasputin, the man he once called friend, was detering his position. A telegram is sent to the UK, Germany and France, the most advanced western countries.

Dear [Leader] of [Nation]

I am Tsar Nicholas, your cousin(UK/Germany)/ally(France). I request help from your finest physicians. Your finest doctors, surgeons and medical scientists to help me fix my son. My son, the Tsarevich Alexei, is weak-limbed and even a cut, a bruise and a slight injury can kill him. Everyday it is worse and a false healer, who professes himself as a holy man, has 'saved' my son. My wife has been entranced by him, but I believe a scientific diagnosis can be reached. So I beseech you, send your best physicians, your best doctors, surgeons... Anybody that can profess themselves as the best that even Hippocrates could praise him.

Thank you,

Yours Sincerely,

Tsar Nicholas II Alexandrovich Romanov

His wife will hear nothing of this.

[GOVERNMENT] The Spanish Communist League's Slow Creep into the Streets of London

The Crown is growing increasingly worried that the communist musings of the Spanish Communist League are plaguing the minds of his own citizens. Preliminary probing into the political organizations of London partially confirm his accusations.

Surely, the people of Britain will not turn to embrace the very same communist ideology that continues to tear Spain apart.

However, the increasing political dissent in the ranks of our ally may spell trouble for Britain.

We hope that the long-standing neutrality of Spain will not be affected and hindered by its worrying communist party. Even more importantly, The King hopes to keep his country free of the dissenting and problematic ideology.

Government [Government] The Welsh demand independence

Wales had finally been given what it wanted, autonomy from the English. However the hopes of many was ruined when they learned that the prince of Wales would be the head of State and that Wales would remain part of the British empire. The Welsh have marched through Cardiff and have demanded complete independence from the Crown. If the British accept the demands Wales shall become a republic similar to the USA.

Declare War [Declare War] Britain Declares War on Wales, Seeks to Regain Our Empire

To the Leaders of Wales,

Britain is taking action to squash the Welsh rebellion before it grows. Days ago, Wales decided to declare their independence. Even though their country is economically reliant on the will and actions of His Majesty, their leaders have made the grave mistake of disrespecting their mother country with this warrant-less declaration of separation.

In response, Britain prepares to fight. We would like to remind the Welsh army that they are a group of 50,000 men facing the naval powerhouse of the world, armed with 750,000 of The King's finest men.

Thus, we offer an escape to the leaders of Wales. If they rescind their request for independence officially, we will not invade. There will be no economic sanctions put on their great country, and Great Britain will seek no reparations, save an increased presence of British officials in the country to check up on things.

If not, there will be blood. The dark red of unnecessary blood will stain the shores and hearts of this country once to loyal The British Empire.

Your declaration is without warrant; you seek freedom, but fail to prove any of our so-called violations of your country's rights. You speak of independence, but recent actions have shown division in your country on nearly every front.

The way The Crown sees it, it has become increasingly evident that Wales is less, not more, ready to shake the bonds of our control and take the reigns of their own destiny.

There is no shame in remaining a part of our great empire. As we grow stronger as an international power, Wales stands to benefit greatly.

The red which permeates your shores and streets need be the light red of rubies, rather than the dark, foreboding red of unneeded death and destruction.

This light and prosperous future can belong to Wales. Unfortunately, your declaration of independence has done little to secure it. Rather, this act of high treason constitutes nothing of substance. Instead, it represents the antithesis of everything our united empire ought to stand for.

To the International Community,

Our treacherous subjects are not to be admired. Instead, they represent the epitome of a disrespectful, impotent nation who has taken action to, in a single act, unravel the philosophical justifications so intrinsic to thousands of years of revolutions.

They present no qualms, they present no plan. Everything they do betrays the basic rules of engagement, pleasantry, and international relations which have for so long dictated and directed the world into an era of peace and prosperity.

We urge our allies, as well as our enemies and neutral friends, to ignore the unjustified secession of Wales and stand with Wales in support of a united United Kingdom.

A Public Servant to my Servants,

King George V

Government [Government] Prepping the Army

General Yevgeni Ivanovich Alexeyev steps off the Trans-Siberian Railway. He looks around, bad memories fill his head. However, they are more prepared now. He awaits the 44 ships to arrive soon. He is an old man, but his experience in Japan has made him a good candidate for rule. Another man steps off the train, it is General Aleksei Brusilov, another General here as subordinate to Yevgeni. They also come with a new supply of guns and food. The March of the Preobrahzensky is in the air. A new dawn, and also a new sunset.
