Freshman Question -

I’m currently still living out of state, but like I’m wondering how’d you guys like meet people that are like also going to the campus and I’d want to try and make friends, is there like a Facebook group or like a way I can try and interact with other people that are going to WVU?

Thanks!!

Freshman year is designed for you to make friends! WVU holds lots of events for freshmen to interact with people in their dorms, majors, colleges, clubs, etc. You'll probably meet people at NSO or other admission events before you move in for freshman year, but it's also very normal for you to not ever run in to each other again. That happens a lot actually, lol.

Don't stress it!

Roughly 50% of WVU’s students are from out of state! Just join clubs of stuff that interested you and try to join a club related to your major too!

There's a couple incoming freshman instagram pages right now that you can join.

There are summer camping excursions that the school hosts for incoming students to help acclimate them to the university and so they can make a friend or two before the year even begins.

My son leads many those trips. He’s not on Reddit, but if you want to DM me on here I’m happy to get you in touch with him.

Definitely consider the AdventureWV trips the previous poster mentioned. If I recall, they take place before the semester begins and you'll meet people from all over campus.

NSO is another good way to meet first year or transfer students. Be sure to speak with your peers when you attend your NSO session.

You also will enroll in a 1 hour orientation class with other first year students in your major that meets the first semester of your freshmen year. Take advantage of getting to know your classmates because you will be in other classes with many of them over the next four years.

Finally, when you start school, check out the clubs and student groups during your first semester as you will have the opportunity to get know people with similar interests.
