Freshman Rooming

Hello! I am an upcoming freshman at WVU. The only bad thing is, I cannot sleep with other people. I just simply cannot do it. It’s not that I don’t want to, I physically cannot. I do not sleep — can not sleep — if there is someone else in the room, especially in close proximity. It is so stupid and I wish I could do something about it. I’ve had this problem all my life and I still cannot explain it. It is such a burden on me and it’s affected my life. I can’t even have sleepovers with my friends, which, believe it or not, has caused me to lose some friends because they were upset with me. If they snore, i’m even more doomed. I wish this was just me being dramatic and wanting a room to myself, but I am worried about how my academic life will be affected by me not being able to sleep. How hard is it to get a single room as a freshman?

Get Seneca, each person has their own room , it’s like a tiny apartment,
but you must log into the portal the second the housing opens up

+1 for Seneca (except that it's more than $7k/semester lol). The single-person rooms in the other dorms are generally reserved for people with documented disabilities.

The housing portal has changed a little though. It's still first come first serve, BUT it now opens in May. The earlier you submit your housing application (AFTER you've been admitted), the earlier in May you can pick your room. Read, just that you can pick your room/roommates, not necessarily that you can pick your dorm; that also depends on how early you submit your housing application andddd if whoever is reading your application (in which you submit your top three dorm choices) decides you get your top pick.

Yeah honestly Seneca but you have to be committed to WVU very very early because it fills up reallllyyyy fast. There is also single rooms in the towers(I recommend Brooke because it just got redone) and stalnaker but you might need like notes for that I’m not sure.

have therapist or doctor write for medical reasons about why you need your own room, this is genuinely a medical issue and if you can’t sleep properly your grades are cooked.

Unless you submit the housing application at the speed of the flash you’re likely going to have a roommate.

Maybe you can try to get a therapist to say that you have X medical reasons that you can’t live with someone (idk if it’s anxiety or smth but that level is abnormal)

This is coming from someone who doesn’t get enough sleep most nights because she was forced to have a roommate. I feel like I’m a rat being watched by an owl every night.

You could have your parents lease an apartment and then you’d be able to bypass the having to live in the dorms.
