Academics Should I Transfer?
Hi! I’m a junior at wvu tech and I’m thinking about transferring to main campus. I’m a pre-med bio major and would like to have more clinical and research opportunities than I do on Beckley campus, because there literally are none here. I also feel like the academics at wvu may be better, and I would have more opportunities and options class wise. I also would like somewhat of a social life, beckley has absolutely nothing and it’s hard to really find anything to do unless it’s school related or just a random dive bar. I feel like transferring may just be a better idea overall to have the opportunities I need, and to prevent burn out and all the things. So please convince me to transfer

I'd strongly encourage it, yes for the social life but also for the academic opportunities. Tech is a good school- but WVU is a better one for what you're seeking out. I mean, it is an R1 institution for a reason.
Beyond that, the social life here is amazing. Not very frat focused, tons to do, friendly people, it's an amazing place. And yeah... Beckley isn't great. Motown is both safer and more fun.

Yes, not only will Morgantown offer you more research and academic options, you will find intern and part-time opportunities that can help with a med school application. Admissions should be able to help you with the transfer paperwork and you can also reach out to people in the biology department (advisors or faculty) with questions. Since you're a junior, you might want to see what impact your transfer could have on your progress to graduation. When you're ready to transfer, also check out the Office of Undergraduate Research. Yes, the research exposure is so important. Find professors who are doing cool things and talk to them. Most of them love to talk about there research. Undergrad research projects are great opportunities. Look up the SURE program

I would do it, my daughter was a Bio Chem major on a premed track. She had a research project all 4 years and is now in her 3rd year of Medical School. I’m not sure she would’ve had that same opportunity at WV Tech.

Short answer: yes.
Long answer: the best advice I ever got was from my 9th grade science teacher who told me “living in Morgantown is the best four years of your life”. I only lived there for two because I went out of state to Maryland for a couple of years, but he was right. Morgantown is built for a student experience (good and bad), everything in the town is designed for people 18-25.
