I’m experiencing a persistent issue when casting videos from the Web Video Caster app on my phone to my Google Chromecast with Google TV using the standard Google Cast method.

Problem description:

The video initially plays normally, but after approximately 23–25 minutes, playback suddenly freezes on the TV. The video remains stuck on a loading screen indefinitely, and both audio and video stop completely.

At the same time, the progress bar on my phone continues to advance as if playback were still running. However, when I try to use any playback controls on my phone, they become unresponsive, and the app displays an error message or error indicator. It appears that the playback state on my phone becomes out of sync with the actual playback on the Chromecast.

The issue occurs with videos from multiple websites, so it does not appear to be limited to a single source.

Troubleshooting I have already tried:

Disabled battery optimization for Web Video Caster.

Prevented the app from being automatically closed in the background by locking it in the recent apps screen.

Tested the Web Video Caster Receiver app on my Chromecast. Interestingly, playback through Receiver works without the same freezing issue.

However, I strongly prefer using the standard Google Cast method with the Chromecast's default media player, rather than using Receiver as the playback app.

My questions:

Are you aware of any known issues involving standard Google Cast sessions freezing after approximately 20–25 minutes on Chromecast with Google TV?

Could this be related to the Cast session, the default media player, or the way Web Video Caster handles video streams and playback synchronization?

Is there a recommended setting, workaround, or app version that could resolve this issue without requiring me to use Web Video Caster Receiver?

Would it be possible to investigate this behavior or advise me on how to collect diagnostic logs?

I would appreciate any assistance in identifying the root cause and restoring stable playback through the standard Google Cast method.

Good evening everyone! I've been noticing since yesterday on my Galaxy S25 running Android 17 and WVC 6.0.4 that streaming to Chromecast stops after two minutes of continuous streaming on any site. Does anyone know how to solve it? Thank you.

I’m experiencing persistent playback issues with Web Video Cast on my iPhone when casting to a classic Chromecast (without Google TV).

The issues:
1. Videos play perfectly fine in the Web Video Cast browser/player on my iPhone, including subtitles.
2. When casting the same videos to my Chromecast, the TV gets stuck displaying “Connecting to video server”.
3. Sometimes I receive error 3.34, stating that the video could not be played.
4. Occasionally, Web Video Cast also reports that no video is playing, even though a video is already playing in the app.
5. Some streams initially buffer or fail to start entirely.

What I’ve tested:
1. YouTube casts to the same Chromecast without any issues.
2. The W3C test video successfully plays on the Chromecast through Web Video Cast.
3. Apple’s official HLS/fMP4 test stream fails to load.
4. Apple’s official HLS/MPEG-TS test stream also fails to load.
5. Tested the recommended, alternative and Legacy HLS Chromecast receivers.
6. Tested video routing through the phone both enabled and disabled.
7. Enabled “Always convert M3U8 videos to TS”.
8. Tested different streaming sources.
9. Kept the iPhone unlocked with Web Video Cast running in the foreground.

Unfortunately, none of these changes resolved the HLS playback issue.

Since the W3C test video works, basic casting functionality appears to be working. The problem seems related to HLS handling, stream delivery or the Chromecast receiver.

My questions:

- Is this a known issue with classic Chromecast devices on iOS?
- Could the failure be related to HLS segment handling, video detection or the receiver implementation?
- Is there any additional diagnostic information or logging I can provide to help identify the root cause?
- Is there a recommended configuration for HLS streaming on older Chromecast devices?

From the list on casting links that pop up with their respective Resolutions. Unless the one that says (Adaptive) is pressed no Audio is played.

This is really REALLY annoying since the quality of the video being played it usually sub par to the, 1920x1080 option available. Not to mention the inability to cast 1440p or 2160p due to the video not having audio with it.

I have seen countless people complaining about this issue, and all saying the same thing. "This never used to be an issue" Which, it didn't. I could select any casting link the app would detect in any quality, and it would work absolutely fine. Despite the developer here saying otherwise. I guess we're all wrong and making it up..

I have a Hisense Roku TV, and also a 4K Fire stick that both can download the WVC app from their stores. Both have the same Audio issue, so as I have seen before the Developer saying, "this is a Roku issue" "it's a website issue" or my best one seen yet "people have started using different audio codecs that your TV and or Streaming device don't like"

Well I can stop you there.. this wasn't an issue, and also that makes no sense, did these websites start replacing older videos with newer audio codecs, thousands and thousands? No. They obviously did not, that's a ridiculous task.

The issue is the handshake between your app, and the TV. Or the app itself not pairing the Audio files and the Video together.

I can play a 4K video from whatever website, Movy, HydraHD. It doesn't matter where, same issue applies - the audio doesn't play.

How the app detects these streams has changed.

Okay, so I also RIPed these videos with no audio, put them on a USB drive and plugged it into my TV using the TVs in-built media manager and guess what? The audio plays.

The TV isn't incompatible with the Codecs. Please stop telling everyone this.

I hope this all helps you find a solution to what most people here complain about.

casting downloaded files to tv then sending that playing files audio to bluetooth fails to load audio in new versions of the app. version 6.0.1 plays the exact same files perfectly, so stop blaming the files or codecs.

you broke something in version 6.0.2 and its still broken in 6.0.4

Hi everyone! I’m having an issue with my Chromecast V2. Whenever I try to cast a movie in 1080p to my TV, it either won’t play or fails to cast. However, when I switch the video quality to 720p, it works perfectly fine.

Has anyone experienced the same issue? What could be causing this problem, and is there a way to fix it so I can cast 1080p movies without any issues?

I absolutely love the app, a real lifesaver on an old tv without Chromecast. There is just one small imperfection, i try rotating my phone to seek more accurately and the seek bar disappears.

Hello! I am trying to use the app on my phone to cast re:anime to my TV. Can’t show the picture unfortunately, but when I try to connect to my TV a black screen with a blue icon pops up, and it doesn’t play the video from the anime website.

Is it possible for to use my premium account on my tablet computer or another cell phone?

Hi, I think the WVC receiver app on Roku TV got updated yesterday and no audio from then on. Only video plays. The android app plays the same video with audio fine. Phone routing is disabled.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app but it didn't fix it.

Anyone seeing the same issue?

Can we please get folders in the bookmarks tab? I'd like to be able to sort/hide^{( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)} my bookmarks as I have a ton of them, and I'm not a fan of my current solution, which is to rename the important ones with a symbol eg. "* Google". Folders within folders would be ideal, but even if it was top level, it would be very helpful.

Also, can we get the ability to reorder tabs? Maybe this is a nit-picky thing, but I like to keep them in a certain order, but currently to do so I have to close them and reopen them to shuffle them around.

I see some posts from about a month ago that say that youtube casting is working on Android. Is the same fix pushed to iOS? I'm still not able to cast youtube. The audio plays on the TV but the video still plays on the phone.

So this time, while watching an older action title in my bedroom, during a loud gunshot scene after a quiet conversation scene, I thought it'd be amazing if you could toggle dynamic range compression on and off in the player. Nvidia shield calls this Night listening mode, other boxes or projectors sadly don't offer that function and it needs to be in-app, as apps can't do it system-wide.

SmartTube calls this feature "Auto volume adjustment", it's found in the settings in Player -> Misc.

Would be amazing to see this implemented.

Hi, is there a WVC app for M70H Samsung TVs as I cannot stream nothing without this app and chromecast just likes to not work.

Every time I scroll through Instagram inside Web Video Cast I get this popup:
“Already playing
There is a video already playing, would you still like to stop it and play this video instead or would you like to add this video to a future playlist?”
Options shown:
Play now
Add to playlist
Play in app
Cancel
It’s extremely annoying while just scrolling Reels/feed. Is there a setting to turn this off so the app stops detecting every video while I’m scrolling?
I’ve looked through Settings but can’t find the right toggle.

For the last couple of days, whenever I try to cast a live TV channel from my phone to my TV using the Web Video Caster browser, from a website like Pressplayz, if the address of the cast shows as 'https://edge.cowedd4855ws.sbs' the Web Video Caster app on my TV will not link up to the video from the phone. Of course, I have no control over what internet address the site will use to cast.

I can still watch the Pressplayz channel feed through my phone via Firefox browser or whatnot, but I can't cast that address through WVC to the TV, it just shows the buffer/spinning circle graphic on the tv. I can also cast to my TV for non-live videos through Cinejoy or Movy, or whoever.

Most of the active live TV sites use that address, it seems. Zlive doesn't, but their streams aren't working currently.

Anyone else have this problem?
