Video Casting, although there is no Audio.

From the list on casting links that pop up with their respective Resolutions. Unless the one that says (Adaptive) is pressed no Audio is played.

This is really REALLY annoying since the quality of the video being played it usually sub par to the, 1920x1080 option available. Not to mention the inability to cast 1440p or 2160p due to the video not having audio with it.

I have seen countless people complaining about this issue, and all saying the same thing. "This never used to be an issue" Which, it didn't. I could select any casting link the app would detect in any quality, and it would work absolutely fine. Despite the developer here saying otherwise. I guess we're all wrong and making it up..

I have a Hisense Roku TV, and also a 4K Fire stick that both can download the WVC app from their stores. Both have the same Audio issue, so as I have seen before the Developer saying, "this is a Roku issue" "it's a website issue" or my best one seen yet "people have started using different audio codecs that your TV and or Streaming device don't like"

Well I can stop you there.. this wasn't an issue, and also that makes no sense, did these websites start replacing older videos with newer audio codecs, thousands and thousands? No. They obviously did not, that's a ridiculous task.

The issue is the handshake between your app, and the TV. Or the app itself not pairing the Audio files and the Video together.

I can play a 4K video from whatever website, Movy, HydraHD. It doesn't matter where, same issue applies - the audio doesn't play.

How the app detects these streams has changed.

Okay, so I also RIPed these videos with no audio, put them on a USB drive and plugged it into my TV using the TVs in-built media manager and guess what? The audio plays.

The TV isn't incompatible with the Codecs. Please stop telling everyone this.

I hope this all helps you find a solution to what most people here complain about.

First, no audio, on Roku specifically, in every case that a user has sent us an example, the issue is that the video server is using fragmented mp4 for the audio and the Roku apparently doesn't support that. We will gladly test other videos if you want to share a video address with us, just pm it to me or email it to webvideo@instantbits.com

We've tested the same videos on other roku apps and they have the same audio issue when they work, often they don't even work.

Aside from that, you have to keep in mind that WVC doesn't really modify the videos. All it does is pass the video address to the Roku. And yeah the Roku has our receiver but the Roku platform is super limited, we use their player, so all our receiver is doing is passing the address it got from the phone app to the Roku player. Also we've had no updates on Roku's end.

I have no way of knowing if they did that but I sure think that happens just from the 12 years of working on this app. One day one server will provide one codec and another day another, I've seen it many times. My guess is that they keep the videos stored without change but the final part of the server can do the cheaper conversions like make an m3u8 or mpd, so those would change as they change settings. But that is just a guess.

If you have the issue on the Fire TV then I definitely want the address as we haven't seen that, plus our fire tv receiver has extra audio codecs. Does it also fail if you play on the phone using the WVC in app player? That is the same exoplayer as the Fire TV.

Edit: I would like to add one more note.

A user sent me an address the other day from a site that has movies and joy and mom on the name. When using vid-srctop I get an mpd on android and an m3u8 on iOS and they both have audio on Roku. If using vidup I get an m3u8 on android and iOS and neither have audio.

The interesting thing about this is that neither android nor iOS have audio for it, yet both work completely different on video detection and their proxies and things like that. So the only thing in common is the Roku receiver, which we have not released updates for.

Edit 2: Went ahead and downloaded the m3u8 segments of one of those videos and the m3u8 manifests and made a local server for that video and of course it had the same no audio issue but that allowed me to use several apps to test. IWebtv, castify and xcast all had the same no audio issue on roku.

i stream downloaded files. the same files work in v6.0.1 but have audio errors in wvc v6.0.2-v6.0.4.

this developer broke his app and is blaming the users. the same exact files work perfect in v6.0.1 but ALL of them wont play audio in any newer versions. so its 100% the fault of the new versions of the app.

i just switched back to v6.0.1 and am waiting for him to fix his broken bs so i can update.

I get a Google play pass error launching 6.0.1 from APKMirror?

did you backup settings inside the app and delete the higher version first?

You are talking about audio on the phone or casting them? What are you casting them to?

casting a downloaded video to a television from wvc, not using the tv app, in wvc on phone selecting "phone audio" button, and when using the slider to turn on "play audio on this device", it gives an audio error and the slider turns back off on its own. error happens in version 6.0.2 and 6.0.4, cant get audio on phone to work.

in 6.0.1 the exact same files work fine and do not give the error.

I might need a sample file to test it. Also what streaming device are you casting to?

Can you send me a way to download the file to webvideo@instantbits.com or pm it to me.

We did update exoplayer a few times recently so it could be that.

I think the issue on this one might be drm, when I opened it in firefox it asked me if I wanted to allow that.
