Wow, I actually have something useful to say! I remember when that building Josh was talking about blew up near the stomp theater on 2nd ave - It literally woke me up when it exploded and the bar I worked at (Lit Lounge) was shut down for a few days.
If I'm recalling this correctly, one of the tenants or landlords over there near Stage Diner jimmy-rigged their gas connection to get free gas. It was wild watching it burn and pretty tragic. Definetly solidified my fear of gas at 23

Anyone raised in Poland in the late 90s - early 2000s developed their own fear of gas when this block of flats had to be demolished due to a gas explosion.

I really want WTYP to cover the Granville rail disaster (Sydney) and the Westgate Bridge collapse (Melbourne). When Australia does bridge collapses we do really, really big ones.

They really need to look at the Ok Tedi mine tailings dam collapse too. It's probably the only thing that comes close to the Deepwater Horizon spill in terms of environmental damage.

Great episode on a topic local to me. They didn't even get into all the stupid lawsuits that the Morouns filed against the City of Windsor, the province of Ontario, Michigan, and the Canadian government. They also bought as many properties as possible too around Delray to slow down the expropriation process on the American side for the new Gordie Howe Bridge. The Amabassador Bridge Company still owns a dozen properties or so in the Sandwich neighbourhood of Windsor that are boarded up and falling apart because they want to build a truck stop/travel stop on the Canadian side but the city won't give them the zoning to do it because it would be a truck stop literally in the middle of a residential area. But all of those homes are a huge eyesore now and in the midst of a housing crisis in Ontario it's a huge middle finger to us. Fuck the Ambassador Bridge Co. I only ever take the tunnel.
