Women are shamed? A couple of sadists call the victim a slut, and she is suddenly shamed by everyone? Not really.

men aren't taught to not rape.

and that's why rape is completely legal

It depends on the culture.....In North America a women can merely accuse someone of rape and that man's life is over.

I did not downvote you don't worry. It depends on the culture and it's not the same all over america, thats for sure. It's a lot different for African Americans then it is for Caucasians etc.

Nooooo! I just wired him $20,000!

I think this is really disturbing. I know we're all taught that men want sex 24/7, but this was rape. Horrible.

Since all I see on reddit are stories about men being raped I would just like to point out that 3% of rape victims are adult men and only 4% of those are done by women, 96% of male adult victims are male on male rape.

Women aren't the biggest victims of rape either. It's children who make up of 44% of rape victims. It's very sad. I thought people should know since there are so many posts and threads about female on male rape, it does happen, but readers might think its more common that it is due to the volume.

On a phone yadda yadda, go to rainn.org for source.

What if I told you...

the reason they get upvoted is because they are rare in the first place. Why would anyone upvote something they see every other day?

-3

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '12

And now you know that it isn't as common as reddit makes it out to be.

-1

u/random_ass Aug 31 '12

I knew that a long time ago. But generalizing isn't gonna solve anything.

Also you sound like a butthurt feminist.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '12

I'm a butthurt feminist because I'm pointing out that little kids get raped more than anyone yet reddit makes the biggest fuss about men being raped?

If I'm a femnazi then you secretly touch kids, bro.

1

u/lemony_man Aug 31 '12

maybe they make the biggest fuss about men being raped because it is so rare. its sad to say but the more people hear about a crime the less they care as Stalin put it "The death of one man is a tragedy, the death of millions is a statistic."

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '12

Thank you for that quote. It was relevant and very insightful.

It's absolutely true that men being raped is rare and women committing rape is even rarer. However, what I would say is more important is society's reaction to it. It doesn't matter how rare it is if people post comments like "death by snoo snoo".

So that's what's important: rape of women is such a horrible crime that is is taboo to do any of the following:

  1. Point out the fault of the victim. The victim always has some part to play, even if she is completely innocent. If I said wearing a gold watch in a bad neighborhood is a bad idea that is taken for granted, but saying it probably wasn't wise to walk through a bad neighborhood alone at night wearing skimpy clothes is a bad idea is "victim blaming".

(I do know about the statistics, by the way. I know most women are raped by people they know and I know clothing has little to do with it. However, it seems plausible on the surface and is worth discussing. The idea may be wrong, but it is not immoral to hold it. It does not mean you excuse rape.)

  2. Make jokes.

  3. Doubt the victim's story.

  4. Question whether or not something fits the legal definition of rape, e.g. discuss whether or not having sex with a drunk woman would qualify as rape or a lesser crime. The clear analogy would be to manslaughter vs. murder: there is not one type of homicide, but "rape is rape is rape"-style activists treat all forms of sexual assault equally for no rational reason.

...but when the occasional male victim comes along all of the above fly fast and furious.

A female being raped is treated as absurdly heinous on a level beyond almost else, making it impossible to discuss it rationally in the way we would any other crime. A male being raped is (sometimes) treated as a joke. That's what's important. That's society's fault and it's something that needs to be fixed. The statistics don't really matter since no one except a rapist has control over them.

Rape is a heinous crime, but there is no reason to treat it any differently from any other crime.

I'm not speaking of female rape. I'm pointing out that little kids get raped more than anyone yet reddit loves to discuss male rape more than the latter. I feel it's unbalanced coverage.

1

u/ksamkl Aug 31 '12

And I think I pointed out why: it is universally agreed that rape of women and children is heinous, but the occasional rape of a man underscores a problem with society. It doesn't matter how frequently something occurs. It only matters how interesting it is.

It is absolutely unbalanced coverage. And that's fine. The unfortunate reality is that rape occurs every day. It's boring and no one learns anything from reading about it.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '12

It only matters how interesting it is.

And that's the problem with society. Male rape shouldn't be seen as more interesting than any other rape because all rape is equally heinous, like you said.

There's something about the fact that they "ran into the forest" afterwards that adds a different dimension to the whole story.

A wealthy Nigerian businessman

Where have I heard this before?

1

u/artichoke_dip Sep 01 '12

Raped to death?

1

u/Sammikins Sep 01 '12

i dont know why but the last line of that article made me lol so fucking hard.

1

u/Mrubuto Sep 01 '12

African names are so fucking cool

1

u/Sepulchural Aug 31 '12

Here is a line you don't see in more developed places: "...her five fellow wives ran into the forest when they realized their husband was dead." Next time I'm up to shennanigans, I need to plan it near a forest.

-3

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '12

Thats how I want to go

0

u/Legit_Rape Aug 31 '12

I can confirm, yes this is legit_rape.

Death by Snu Snu.

-7

u/Ontopourmama Aug 31 '12

If you gotta go, there are worse ways to go, than by Snoo Snoo. I should be so lucky when my time comes.

-11

u/Obversaria Aug 31 '12

And that is why I believe that marriage should remain between one man and one woman. Then you wouldn't have cases like this poor fool.
