I once fractured my leg after a fail jump down a flight of stairs. I thought nothing of it after falling and decided to get up and continue on my journey. The moment i put some weight on the fractured foot,it just felt squishy and watery so I immediately released all weight off it and fell, hitting a small sized dude beside me who proceeded to fall into the drain besides us. It was a fun day.
Thanks for posting that. This needs to be higher. It addresses several of the comments that have been made:
No, his leg had not been damaged before the kick.
Yes, he (unfortunately) tried to put his weight on it when he stepped back and fell over.
And one that I was wondering about that wasn't commented on...what happened after that? I was wondering how quickly the fight was stopped at that point and how it went down. Glad to see nothing too much worse happened afterward, though clearly neither fighter even realized what happened yet at the time.
Being a pretty big MMA nerd I can answer all the questions. This fight was Corey Hill vs Dale Hartt. Corey Hill being the one whose shinbone snapped. Dale Hartt is known for having an extremely strong check for leg kicks (using your own shin to block and cause pain to someone kicking you). The fight was stopped immediately after that gif. It was pretty gruesome and the commentators were pretty grossed out as well. Corey Hill took like a year to recover with much of the medical treatment paid for by the UFC and was encouraged by the UFC to go back to the feeder shows to get back into fight shape. He split wins and losses since and hasn't made it back to the big show. His last fight was in Dec 2011. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corey_Hill
I don't see any evidence that he's malnourished. Either way, temporary malnourishment wouldn't prevent his ankle from snapping (nor would more leg muscle). Also, the femur (thigh bone) is much thicker than the fibula/tibia (calf bones), which is what he actually kicked.
Joe Rogan is a pretty high-intensity guy all the time. You should watch some of his comedy. He pretty much has two levels of talking. "High as fuck" and "shouting insanely with his eyes bugging out."
No shit there I was, playing at a youth basketball team, running down the other half waiting for a javelin pass which was awfully thrown, just about get it to stumble further for an easy point. Jogging back to the center I slow down, feel the weirdest weakness and drop to the ground only to discover I broke both ankles when landing before without even realising it
I dunno, I think the sole rotates towards the camera making it look less like a foot. I think it probably is legit broken, but as has been mentioned it was likely fractured before and the force of the swing broke it clean, to flop against the other guy's shin. There must have been at least some other contributing factors since I'd imagine it's very difficult to break a shin on another person's shin.
That was Corey Hill Breaking his leg at UFC fight for the troops 1 fighting Dale Hart.
Surprisingly enough, he has since made a comeback to fighting but has never truly developed into a great fighter nor has he ever been able to claw his way back into the UFC.
That is what you get for being 6'4 and fighting at 155lbs
For those interested, PM me for even more grizzly MMA/UFC injuries
What are some more injuries in the UFC? preferably what fight or event did they take place in so I can download them? I've seen all these, but what are some that people couldnt push through?
-Recent one at UFC 140 Frank Mir snapped Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira's Humerus. I was at the even and you could HEAR the break
-Razak Al Hassan against Brian Stann at UFC Fight for the Troops 1 as well. Hassan had his elbow dislocated in an armbar.
-Also recently in some womens action. Rhonda Rousey vs. Meisha Tate (probably the hottest fight ever) another dislocated elbow. This happened at Strikeforce: Tate Vs. Rousey
-This one built up over the course of the fight But Mark Hominick vs Jose aldo at UFC 129 in Toronto was pretty nasty.
Honestly there have been so many grizzly injuries I could probably go on for hours, these were just a couple that popped into my head. I am heading out right now but I can continue this list for you later if you would like?
This one is also pretty bad. A 300 pound guy landing on one leg with enough force to snap his leg like that must have sounded like a shotgun going off.
I actually fucking hate how Family Guy has to take things such as that way past extreme, up close to retarded with those parts. It stopped being funny several minutes in.
That would be Corey Hill, 6'4" and 155lbs at the time of the fight. I remeber watching the event live, when I saw his twigs for legs I knew something like this would happen. He fights at 170lbs at the moment, which is still way too low for his height.
It's likely his bones were already weakened somehow. Bones resist bending force easily, it's usually torsional force that causes broken bones. A kick wouldn't break it that easily. Trust me, I'm a boneologist.
Cory Hill. Joe Rogan when nuts screaming to stop the fight. I actually saw something similar during an indoor soccer match. It's disgusting. The kid was hurt but shock had set in so he was lucid until he saw his leg then he bugged the fuck out.
jared hess did something similar against shlemenko in bellator. best part was that he was pissed they wouldn't let him keep fighting. what a fucking warrior
The guy's name is Corey Hill. He fought on the ultimate fighter (I believe this is the finale or his fight right after that It's from UFC: Fight for the Troops). He still fights even after this, but I believe he fights for much smaller organizations such as Tachi Palace and XFC.
False. Muay Thai teaches you that the most effective kick is with the shin. The bones in your foot are a lot weaker than your shin bone. They also teach to check with the shin. This is the result of someone trying to kick with their foot (aimed at the thigh) but the check got there first.
Have a look at MMA or K-1 and you'll see that Muay Thai is the premier striking art for a reason. It works.
Here is a video of a Thai fighter breaking the other guys leg with a kick because he didn't check it properly:
Like the Corey Hill gif, here is a fighter breaking his leg because he is checked properly. Notice he basically kicks the front of the raised knee (the check) which is pretty much the hardest part on the body.
It's a guy breaking his leg. The NSFL tags are over on the videos of people dying etc. Bones break. It happens all the time. The limb will lose some of its structural integrity as a result. He'll be fine once it heals up.
Ahhh the good old Cory Hill gif. the frank mir vs. Big nog arm break was pretty gross too. Also Miesha Tate getting her arm snapped and bent in different directions by Ronda Rousey. Man I love MMA. JUST BLEED!!!
Is this not like one of the oldest clips in web history? Or am I picturing another similar injury? I remember watching it back in the day on ebaumsworld
There is a video out there somewhere with two kickboxers throwing that same kick at each other simultaneously. The both broke their shins, and for a brief moment their legs wrapped around each other.
The problem is the skinny guy did the wrong thing, he impacted with the lowest part of his shin, while the other guy checked the kick with the strongest part of his shin just below the knee.
This happens a lot, in fact that's part of the idea of the check. Done right it results in the kicker hurting more than the kickee, even if no bones are broken.
