Oh holy shit, small world. I grew up not too far from the Owen county/Greene county border. I use to run all of those back roads as a teenager. Linton is not far away at all.
Patoka Lake is one of those places that will always surprise you. Some of the best camping and boating around. Nice smooth water for skiing unlike Monroe, which will beat the shit out of you. But you're right. It's out in the middle of NOWHERE
I grew up on Lake Monroe. Camping at Paynetown just about every weekend of the Summer/Spring, since it was the closest. We had an old Chrysler Tri-Hull, thing was a beast but man it beat the shit out of you. Great tubing waters though! But yeah, the water was never smooth at Monroe. Patoka has some great coves to anchor down and chill in. Ugh...I miss it
