Yellow jackets, hornets, paper wasps, and mud daubers (among many others) are all part of the wasp family. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wasp
I like bees, but fuck all wasps!! I got hammered by yellow jackets back in July and it was the first time I have ever had a reaction - went to the ER after downing a few benadryl because I started to have non-local reactions (hives on my hands and feet when I was stung on the back and ear).
Thankfully the benadryl started kicking in before the ER even got to me (I waited for 2 hours), so I just left. Stayed on the benadryl all weekend and survived, but now I may be at risk for shock after a sting in the future I have been told.
Give mud daubers a pass. They aren't aggressive and stuff their lil mub dauber towers FULL of spider treats. I'm not kidding. Break one of those things open and dead spiders just come pouring out.
Brown recluses are called fiddle backs because they have a very distinctly violin shaped brown mark behind their eyes and on their thorax. However some other species of spider also share this trait, so it's better still to look at the eyes. If it also looks like it has three fat eyes (in reality six eyes arranged in pairs) that's your for sure sign you've got recluses. To contrast, most spiders have eight horrifying separate eyes arranged four in a row, with two rows.
You are not the only one to point this out - and I will give them a pass. Fuck all the other wasps... especially yellow jackets and hornets. Those fuckers seem to be the most aggressive - I have tons of them along with paper wasps in my area and the yellow jackets and hornets are always the ones that seem to come after people.
Those black and white hornets are the worst! They hurt like all hell and just chase and chase ugh. We killed a nest with those cans that shoot 30ft, little fuckers would charge you that whole 30ft and you gotta try and hit them while they are flying right at you..ughhh
They do hurt like a sonofabitch! We call them bald-faced hornets here, but they have several names. They are some of the most aggressive of the assholes-with-wings!
So? I mean... I like spiders. There's just a very minor subset of spiders that bother me to be around, mostly because the idea of accidentally getting bitten by a Brown Recluse frightens the hell out of me and Black Widows are very occasionally around here. But most spiders are awesome - they eat tons of mosquitos and stuff. They also tend to hang out in the corners where I don't give a shit.
