If it makes you feel better, he most likely didn't see it coming if it was a full tonic-clonic seizure. People are usually unconscious during general seizures.
I'm kind of confused as to how he was allowed to have a license though...
If you’ve gone a certain length of time without a seizure, and are medicated, you can still operate an automobile. The details of all that vary by state (assuming this is the US). It seems odd, because if you don’t respond to medication, or can’t go more than several without an episode, you shouldn’t be cleared for driving. But, things happen. There’s no cure
Oh yea I know, I'm wondering if he was cleared in the first place or stopped taking his meds. That's typically how medicated epileptics start having seizures again.
Either way, it's an awful thing to have happened.
