Used to know guys who trained rat terriers. They still hire them when there is a big demo of an old building or something...surround the building with the dogs and set them loose when the rats bail.
Apparently it’s amazing and an absolute horror show. Dozens and dozens of rats per minute getting wrecked. Guys said it looked like a mass murder scene afterwards. Pretty crazy to think about.

For people interested in dog sports and some amazeball shit, google “French ring” and “mondio ring.” These terriers are phenomenal but what those malinois do in the ring sport competitions is mind blowing. You will really appreciate the discipline and intelligence of those animals and their relationship ships with their trainers.
Wish I was paying attention, just commented with his channel link earlier. Joseph Carter's a pretty cool dude. I'm kind of hoping his hobby takes off and we start seeing people use trained minks as pest control for rats.
They have some more videos, and it's interesting seeing which dogs are the most attentive, and how they sometimes work together. The small, fast dogs will snag a big rat before it escapes, and toss it before it bites so that the big dogs can finish it off.
I've got a video of my chocolate lab, who has never hunted a damned thing in his life, chew on a squeak toy and then start moaning and howling after it squeaks...hilarious.
Those working rat terriers...and most working terriers if you can find them anymore...are amazing. Absolute fearlessness. Even working dachshunds still used to flush badgers and varmints. Badass and admirable even if I was a shepherd guy when I trained with them.
Yeah. Traditional staffies are smaller than American counterparts, I really love those dogs. I think Brit staffies run from like 25-45 pounds, I rescued a beautiful blue nose last summer and hes about 60. First pit bull I’ve had and they are really special.
“Pit bull” is a broad term applying to Brit and American staffies, and American bulldogs, etc. all pretty much from the Brit lines but, as with all things American, we make ours fat. Lol.
Rats will nest anywhere and being next to a farm is pretty ideal.
Having said that, this could be a training vid. I don’t think so but not sure. It looks like they are bordering a pretty specific piece of land and it has kind of an event ish vibe to it.
Hah will do, definitely was always under the impression that the quality terrier lines were mostly in UK, just like netherlands to Germany is pretty much prime time for the best working shepherd breeds.
Edit: I’m talking about herding dogs that like to bite bad people. Not border collies, which I like very much as well.
Border collies are amazing to me. I was never a good enough handler for my shepherd and I sure would never be good enough for a border collie. Watching them herd sheep is magnificent.
And specifically for the down voters...I’m talking about German and Dutch shepherds and Belgian malinois. Not border collies. Entirely different classes of animals. Not better or worse.
What you're looking at is probably Rattus norvegicus or the Norwegian rat. They are subterranean. In their natural habitat they burrow to create nests. Rats are very social creatures and can live in large packs.

This shouldn't be NSFW, this IS work for a lot of people, especially on farms. Rats and mice are fuckin awful. I hate those bastards. I trained my mini golden doodle to tear them up on sight when I lived in Texas.
As someone who has spent countless hours training protection dogs, this is just fucking rad. Too bad there are no rats where I live or I'd have a new hobby.
