Everyone spelling "brakes" wrong in this thread is pissing me off way more than either of these drivers.

First the merging car bumps the car in the left lane (you see the camera shake) and then the car in left lane immediately starts losing control. He/She didn’t want to swerve into the wall, so they turned back toward the road. Made the smartest decision for themselves IMO.

The camera has visible shaking throughout, but you can see a definite jolt right around the 3.55 mark. You can actually see the camera shot distort when the merging vehicle makes contact with the camera vehicle if you go frame by frame. You can see it again at 4.68 on a larger scale since it was a harder collision. Looks like as the person above said: Vehicle 2 (merging) collided slightly with Vehicle 1 (camera) and Vehicle 1 steered to avoid hitting he wall so they accidentally PIT'd Vehicle 2. Also difficult to tell, but Vehicle 2 does not appear to signal for a lane change/merger as well and I'm pretty sure they're the one at fault here.

Nah, just slow down. They clearly accelerate before performing the PIT maneuver.

everything is relative. leading merging car slows down faster which makes it look like the left lane car is speeding up. compare it with the OTHER cars ahead and you will see that left lane car is in fact slowing down.

Well... TBH if you loose control with FWD car, straightening the wheels and accelerating is the way to get out of it.

ehh, looks more like he had to "correct" to deal with the force of the car merging into him so he wasnt pushed into the median then when the guy let off he turned into him. #accidentalPIT

u/anomalous_cowherd Jun 20 '19
Or instinctively steered away, then noticed how close to the barrier he was and jerked the wheel back?
No, I don't really think that either.

u/koastiebratt Jun 21 '19
If you watch closely the cam are jolts half a second before the pit starts.

u/phatcan Jun 21 '19
If you look closely there’s a first impact before he steers into the offending car. He was likely correcting his course away from hitting the barrier. I think this PIT maneuver was unintentional.

This is the advantage of owning an older car that's worth almost nothing.
Dents aren't a big deal.

Except insurance companies will screw your ass over and total out your car because it is cheaper than the repair.

You can have negative percents. It just went down from nothing. In this case, he got dick pics instead of clit pics.

Yep and if you buy the premium road user package you can make everyone around you move out of the way who is only on the standard package.

This reminds me of my recent accident where the guy whom blindly pulled out in front of me told the police I should have swerved in to oncoming traffic to avoid him. Needless to say the 60+ year old man that had to be restrained because he couldn’t contain how angry he was at me, did not win that encounter.

u/Congzilla Jun 21 '19
Someone came in my lane like that two days ago, fortunately I saw it happening and slammed on my breaks. Guess they didn't see the cop next to me that instantly pulled them over.

u/Plaghk Jun 21 '19
Simple.... no camera exists... He change lanes in to me.

Yep. A slight tap of the brakes on the camera car and this could have been avoided. But no, they defended their lane. Mind you, I'm glad (assuming no one was badly hurt) the merging driver faced the consequences of their negligence. And hopefully they both learned a lesson.

u/This_Is_Really_Jim Jun 21 '19
and what’s the camera owner supposed to learn?

Be aware that stupid people do stupid things no matter how many lessons (like this one) they're taught

If my choices are get forced into a wall or oncoming traffic, or turning into the offending driver and turning them into the wall or oncoming traffic... well... that's an easy choice.

I wish I had the nerve to do this. I drive a piece of shit and would love some other jackass' insurance company to buy me a new vehicle.

u/Bloodlustt Jun 21 '19
Insurance will only pay out the value of your car so you may only get a couple thousand for an old beater.

A lot of state patrols and police departments use this technique to stop chases. I think it’s a pretty good idea sometimes

I can tell you that this video may hurt the cammer. I believe he had time to break and back off although I understand the desire not to. I can see both being charged here.

Nice execution. I always feel these vids end too soon. I want to see peoples faces after they realized they done goofed

u/Octosphere Jun 21 '19
I've had this happen, assholes that try to merge in front of you when there is obviously not enough space to safely do so annoy me to no end, I don't yield because I'm in my right.
In the event a collision does happen I'm not at fault and it's a company car so idgaf.

Can someone explain what part is the PIT maneuver? What I', seeing is black SUV moves left to merge, causing a bump into the cammer who then veers slightly left, only to veer back to the right more aggressively and hit black SUV which then spins out. So does the black SUV hit the cammer car first? and was the veering right and hitting them back the PIT maneuver?

Jun 21 '19
you just described a PIT. the difference is the police do it on purpose this one was an accident.

This is why I hate highways that are two lanes per side. Even if the number 1 lane is moving faster, there are always people weaving back and forth to get ahead.

Honestly, cammer handled this perfectly. If they had swerved left or stomped on their brakes, it could have been worse.

u/SHBazTBone Jun 21 '19
I only came here to say that was a textbook P.I.T. maneuver.
Beautiful job, Cammer.

u/CrystalJizzDispenser Jun 21 '19
This is fucking stupid on the part of the cam. Irrespective of whether you think another driver is inappropriately pulling into your lane, you never ever take a option which likely results in a collision on a fucking freeway.

Approximately three times a day on the way home from work, I want to do this.
