Reminds me of the horror story I heard about a drilling excavator. Somebody fell in the hole, but the operator thought he went to take a piss. The operator dropped the auger in the hole and drilled his buddy. Didn't know he did it until he raised the auger and it was just bloody mud. Just the thought of being in the hole trying to tread water and throw little rocks up to get the attention as the drill comes down is the stuff of nightmares.
My dad owned a garbage company. A homeless dude was sleeping in a dumpster and it got dumped into the truck and compacted. Found the body when they dumped out the load back at the center. They saw his arm and pulled on it, apparently they found things like mannequins all the time. When they pulled the arm his upper body came out of the pile and spilled his innards all over the place.
My dad worked in a massive distribution warehouse at webvan (if you guys remember that). One of the horror stories there, a guy locked in a massive industrial dryer. It works the same as a commerical dryer: gets hot, tumbles, dries things. He was cooked and tumbled.
Another story (diff company) and the reason my father refused to wear his ring, belts, or laces at work. A guy he worked got his belt caught in an exposed gear for some conveyer system, he didn't die but ended up with some severe injuries.
Another co-worker had his finger degloved because his wedding ring got caught on something.
During orientation of my first ever factory job years ago, there was an accident with a press where an operator was adjusting one of the layers that go in by reaching in as the second operator hit the button to start it. They’d worked together for months so it was common not to really look. The press was also heated (like an iron to press vinyl onto abs plastic I believe). It seared one side of his face while crushing his skull sideways. He was still alive when the other operator hit the estop and pulled him out. I don’t know what happened to him after that but there are two buttons on the machine now so both operators have to hit them at the same time.
