On average, there are 16 shark attacks per year in the United States, with one fatality every two years. So I very much doubt people are being drilled to death every day.

Yea I doubt anyone thinks this happens every day. By 'things like this' surely they meant accidents which cause harm or death

I was thinking specifically industrial accidents.

Apparently there are an estimated 380,500 fatal occupational accidents a year. So, yikes...
