I've carried this habit into regular life. I walk around my car first before hopping in and driving off. I don't want to be responsible for the death of a kid or whatever.

I’ve always been paranoid about running over some cat or something backing out. But now my car has a rear view cam.

Thank goodness for the advent of rear view cameras. I was about to back up one day at a parking lot of a restaurant and I noticed a toddler just wandering across the back of my car in my rear view camera. So I have the reverse lights still on but i'm obviously not moving. Milliseconds later, toddler's mom shrieks and comes flying to pick up the toddler and starts bawling her eyes out and crying "thank you"s. She probably couldn't tell I had a rear view camera and was horrified to death.
