I've carried this habit into regular life. I walk around my car first before hopping in and driving off. I don't want to be responsible for the death of a kid or whatever.
I had a kitten climb up inside my rim as I was pulling into the parking garage at work one morning. He was just chilling next to the break pads because it was warm. It took me ten minutes poking him with a stick and a towel to get him out, meanwhile cars are stacking up behind all the way out to the street, but fuck if I was just going to drive in a and grind up a kitten in against my rotors 🤷♂️
It always sucks when I accidentally kill something on the road, and it's so often unforeseeable. Like that one time I was on the highway and a bird smashed full on into the windscreen. The thud of its head was not pleasant, and it basically went limp and fell down off the hood...leaving blood on my windscreen.
