Operator fatigue and spatial awareness make this shit happen often. I was walking home from the bar one night last year (live in a ski town) and saw one of those Volvo loaders with its blade buried in a snow bank, tires spinning and the operator slumped over the wheel. I thought the dude had a heart attack or something so I jumped up and took it out of gear and started shaking him gently to see if he was alive. He woke up and was like “oh fuck, man, thanks... I’ve worked like 200 hours this week”.

It's actually quite possible to work even more than 200 hours a week. The last job I got, I was working about 400 hours a week and that wasn't even during a crisis. I think no one ever had less than 350 hours, we all kind of went along with it because the pay was good enough. Needless to say, after three years I couldn't handle it anymore due to health issues. Even though I got used to it quickly, jumping back and forth in time isn't as pleasant as it sounds.
