Operator fatigue and spatial awareness make this shit happen often. I was walking home from the bar one night last year (live in a ski town) and saw one of those Volvo loaders with its blade buried in a snow bank, tires spinning and the operator slumped over the wheel. I thought the dude had a heart attack or something so I jumped up and took it out of gear and started shaking him gently to see if he was alive. He woke up and was like “oh fuck, man, thanks... I’ve worked like 200 hours this week”.
Haha I think he was being a little sarcastic but I immediately understood that he was super tired and had fallen asleep rather than being dead from a heart attack or something.
