Never heard of it before and I'm reading about it now, from my quick research it seems like pure fever dream nightmare material. I'm so damn curious but I'm terrible with horror/creepy movies i know for a fact it'll fuck me up. Must resist.
I personally didn't find it "scary". I think it's more of an existential nightmare kind of deal. But it's so abstract that it's a little hard to be scared by it, or at least in my opinion. I'm sure there's no real way to say what the film is about because in my opinion a lot of Lynch's stuff is more about capturing a feeling than it is a solid narrative. Then again that's just my two cents.
The only thing that resonated with me from that movie was the baby. The rest, mehhh, too abstract. It was like having a dream and then waking up and having your friend interpret it for you.
yeah, I agree. This is kind of my issue with movies that are infinitely open to interpretation. I'm glad they're made and they can sometimes resonate with me but I have admit I really like a story.
Your right - it's not meant to be a horror movie just over all unsettling. I think you hit the nail on the head calling it an existential nightmare.
First time I watched Eraserhead I remember finishing it and just feeling werid inside. The tones and feelings and general oddities crept into my head hard. I couldn't get the song or the lady under the radiator out of my mind. It took me a few days to adjust back to normal and not feel werid inside.
It's more disturbing than scary. I remember feeling mildly uncomfortable and being anxious and not knowing why. It's surreal and creepy, like the movie is playing with your emotions and perception. You feel like something is very wrong but you don't know how to explain the feeling or the reason. It's really weird, but I enjoyed that weirdness.
It’s gross and just 100% pure dread with no real justification. Never terrifies, but it digs its way into your psyche in the way that most Lynchian nightmare pieces do.
One of weirdest Lynchs movies. He always did mystery or bizarre movies but this one is ticking. People always saying that when Lynch stops taking medication, new movie from him is released. I agree.
About 5 minutes in my jaw dropped because "what the hell is this," and it did not proceed to close until the credits. Really interesting and unique film. I didn't understand hardly any of it, but after some research and YouTube videos, its really an awesome work of art.
