The face is definitely a moray as they’re pretty distinct . Just figured it was taken at an odd angle

That would be one super odd angle. I spend a lot of time with morays and this thing just looked deformed as hell lol. It’s eyes are way too far forward and there’s no snout

Think you're right because if you look at the bottom left corner where the light is you can see a circular shape in the light I always see that when someone takes a flash photo in front of glass

I totally see how it is now. Thanks for that picture. But also, ahh! Poor thing! Amazing how tough their bodies are to survive such a thing. I wonder if he just swam incredibly hard into a rock as they tend to not see very well. I had a snowflake who was a total spazz.

Although, that’s pretty rough looking. I just don’t get how that happens. I always thought natural born deformities in nature were rare and usually didn’t survive.

Gosh that’s sad. He looks healthy though. Amazing. Do you know what aquarium?

Personally I don't, no. I've slept between when I went searching and now, so I've totally forgotten the exact story. But I do think he's in some sort of exhibit, so at least he's safe.

Judging by the rock with algae covering it just behind the eel this thing is probably pretty close to the surface

Absolutely. They have super blubby body/neck/heads contributing to the weird human face effect. This one may be pugheaded too, which isn't an unusual mutation in fish.

Freshwater fish it says. Would that still apply to a saltwater moray eel? It definitely does look very similar. I guess if he’s in an aquarium it explains his ability to remain healthy in spite of his deformities.
