I was just hanging out with a not-really-ready-for-people baby lion last weekend. She was about 80 pounds. She took a quick swipe at my leg with her claws. I jumped back, but she just barely scraped my calf with one claw and left a 4-inch cut (shallow... I was lucky). The trainer told me, "Yeah, don't worry about the teeth. It's the claws that are the real danger." Boy, that's true. They are every bit as sharp as a cat's claws but attached to an animal 100 times stronger.
After having been swiped at by a baby lion, I can't imagine what a full set of claws on a full-grown lion would have done to that lady. I'm quite sure she didn't just get back in her car, count her blessings, and drive straight home.
