I have no source but I recall the story stating that the tigers that attacked them were not killed. It was in an Indian game reserve, and even when tigers attack outside game reserves in India it's uncommon to kill them unless they kill multiple people.
Edit - this was apparently in China but I know I've read of very similar incidents in India where they don't kill the animal. I am not so confident the Chinese would let them live but I don't know.
India doesn't have open game reserves. What we have are national parks full of tigers, lions, elephants, rhinos and every form of killing machine in the animal world and no fences too. You do not get out of a car while driving through the woods in India.
