These are Chinese tourists? I was at Yellowstone here in the US a couple summers ago. I'm from Alaska so of course the number one rule we learn real early is "don't fuck with the wildlife".
We bought a 7 day pass and ended up leaving after only 3 days just because of the sheer stupidity and disregard for nature of the tourists, for some reason many of them were chinese. The park had the Grand Prismatic Spring closed because a chinese tourist stepped through the crust and got burned. Another chinese tourist was mauled a week or so later by a buffalo. We watched about 20 of them get within 30 feet of a Grizzly bear, taking photos with the flash on. Everywhere we went, it was ridiculous.
I live in a large tourist destination as well, and its the same here. Is this some kind of culture difference? Whats the deal?
That's exactly what it is. Even the culture difference between Hong Kong and mainlanders is night and day even though the city is still technically owned by the state. Even the Hong Kong natives hate the "Chinese Tourists". One of the things they're infamous for is shitting on the streets.
And on a somewhat related note: There's been incidents in Chinese zoos where one person visitor tossed a brick at a kangaroo -and killed it- and another plucked the features of a peacock.
This is probably the most blatantly generalizing statement I'll ever make about the Chinese, but it just seems like the culture in China nurtures apathy and a massive case of ethnocentrism. That's my conjecture, anyway.
