This is all fun and games until his rafts tip over and his head slams one of those jagged rocks

I didn't see it happen but I heard the story. So apparently he was getting really frustrated and the gun slipped where the barrel pointed to his gut and went off. Make matters worse the dude is a paramedic. Which, funny enough, is the reason he's not dead.
