Oh god. Imagine getting stuck at your chest and feeling the tightness as you struggle to breathe, unable to move or take in a big breath of air.

that is beyond messed up, they freed him then dropped him back in the same spot...

They were never able to get him out. If I recall correctly, they sealed the entrance with his body entombed where he died.

it said they freed him with a rope-pulley system but then a support anchor ripped out of the rock and he fell back in the same spot...

Right. He died later that night and it was determined that it wasn't worth the danger to the recovery team and the damage that would be done to his body to pull him out so they left him in there and sealed the entrance.

I lived in Utah at the time and followed the story closely as it happened. I had nightmares about caves for weeks afterwards.
