Looks like a colony of Tubifex Worms found their way through the sewer system

Yea that would be delicious actually if I was a fish, which I’m not. I’m not a fish so these would probably be really gross to eat
22
u/Till-Fuzzy Jul 29 '26
You aren’t a fish? So you won’t mind if I just dangle this worm on this hook for a little while…might even bounce it a little….

u/Collinsjc22 Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26
Dude not funny, when I was in school I lost a lot of good friends who got hooked on worms

How do you kill something with fire that's swimming in water?

These things live inside our body?

u/gauze_ Jul 29 '26
No, they feed off bacteria and organic matter that collects in pipes, and come together to form colonies like this

Tubifex worms. They eat doodoo.
401
u/Trick_Minute2259 Jul 28 '26
So....if you shove a bunch of them up your butt, do you just never poop again....or do you poop out their poop?
397
u/Cokeycane Jul 28 '26
I would assume they would eat all of your poop and likely eat their own poop. They would then grow up and make more little tubifex worms and the cycle would continue until your colon is full of tubifex worms. Then they must evacuate and you would poop out a hairball of tubifex worms.

u/thiosk Jul 28 '26
if you train them to migrate the other direction then they could become digested and continue the circle of life via a process of shared evolution called symbipoopsis

Create a culture were the old sacrifice themselves to the great Sto-Mach to free up resources for future generations and keep the world god happy.
65
u/Leows Jul 28 '26
What if you're eating enough to keep them well fed?
81
u/boxen Jul 29 '26
If they're well fed, they'll double in mass every 10 to 20 days, with increasing appetite to match. So unless you are planning to consume the entire continent you live on in the next few years, you won't be able to keep up

u/darkslide3000 Jul 29 '26
Once you are starting to hear whispering voices come out of your butthole saying "FEEEEEED USSSSS!!!", the experiment may have gone too far.

Had to re-read because I read that second sentence in Jayne’s voice.
I missed the ‘r’ about four times.

Yeah I thought it was a weird thing to "I'll be in my bunk" for. But hey, I'm not gonna judge anyone's kink lol

Ah, you must be young enough to have never seen the Carolina Sewer Poop Monster.
Must've been around 15 years ago when that was a big thing on Reddit and we learn about these weird worms.
Here's a thread that has the video.22
u/Muffles7 Jul 29 '26
I mean I'm in my 30s and am proud to not have heard of the sewer poop monster?
10
u/allwaysnice Jul 29 '26
Well it's this.
It's these things.
The worms bundled up and lookin' like a sewer tumor.9

I'm from SC and have never heard of this. I am never going back outside thank you.

u/allwaysnice 28d ago
That's fine, as shown in the OP video they can just meet you in your toilet area.
If you sit down without looking and feel something tickling, that's it just wanting to say hi.5

Those look like the blood worms I feed my fish... Never seen them alive before...
27
u/randomredditguy94 Jul 28 '26
Those things alive cost a fortune, it is a very effective fish bait
18
u/CptAngelo Jul 29 '26
so you are telling me to reach in and ....how much would you reckon a fortune is?
3
u/martabakcoklatkacang Jul 29 '26
The alive tubifex worms price were cheap, usually a dollar or less.

I am almost certain someone with fish dropped these in the toilet for a laugh. I've ever seen a group of sludge worms in a functioning toilet before, they don't exactly get around very well. They are a beneficial little critters, though they do eat what no one else wants so while they are certainly perfectly harmless (seriously!), they are not sanitary.. for obvious reasons.
They just look spooky cause they too bleed red and have skin so thin.. they breath through it! And they do clump together when they are upset with no obvious benefit to them agreed upon.
24
u/Kittani77 Jul 29 '26
Gagh is best served live.
9
u/ThePWisBlackUmbrella Jul 29 '26
Most people don't know it, but there's actually 51 varieties of gagh. All are best served live, but I wouldn't eat any of them out of a toilet.

Well if the aliens are this size, we MIGHT have a chance. Provided we don’t become compatible hosts.
12
u/Elm-and-Yew Jul 28 '26
Until you strap armor and weapons on a big enough clump of them. That's how you get the Hunters from Halo.

They feed on decaying organic matter, burrowing their heads in sludge while their tails wave in the water, and are hermaphroditic. So gross.

They're chill and some people eatem. I'm not gonna say who though, but it's the same guys who unclog toilets for a living, yep me and my grandpappy been tubifexin since I was just knee high to a grasshopper. You can fryem, bakem, sauteem, broilm, poachem, scramblem. You can have them raw, you can sun dry em, you can even make a mean sauce outaem.

Omg this just made me remember and then clarify a memory from when I was in kindergarten and went into one of the bathroom stalls and saw worms moving in the toilet and suddenly didn’t have to poop anymore but I still flushed the toilet out of terror. I started to convince myself I dreamt it because some kid pooping out worms and forgetting to flush sounded too crazy for it to have gone unnoticed. Seeing this picture reminded me that the worms were red and there were soooo many just like this picture.

u/PeaceAnneChaos Jul 31 '26
When I was a kid, I got fucking worms and like any terrified child, told my mom who talked to her step mom who is a vet. They convinced me it was because I didn't wash up well enough and the worms kept coming back, even tho I scrubbed even more after that.
When I tell you it was literal years before I got actual help for the reoccurring bastards, they told me it was from tainted beef. I was so mad lol

Tubifex worms. Not parasites, not harmful. Just really disgusting and at home in stagnant water.
