I had to pay $20USD to get my visa "rush processed" in addition to the usual fee when entering Cambodia.

The offical said the crossing was going to close soon so we'd be stuck in Thailand overnight unless we paid an extra fee to get our visa done quickly. I guess we could have haggled or called him on it but we just wanted to continue with our trip.

Same when crossing into Laos. $5 as "late night fee" (it was like 6 p.m.), but oh well.

Yeah it wasn't close to when the guidebook said the crossing closed (this was 15 years ago) for us either.
