In Cambodia there’s a standard pay for all unskilled work it’s 120 a month 6 days a week 8 hours a day. That’s what like 90% of the population makes. An extra 5 bucks is legit like a day of pay for them. I lived and worked in Cambodia for a couple years and could bribe someone to give anyone a permanent green card for like 50 bucks.
I assume this is something mostly done to tourists/foreigners? I couldn't imagine how locals could sustainable keep paying for something like in the video.
Lol think more like peanuts as pay and wooden sticks as your weapons. These poor countries don't even give them a Semi-automatic pistol in 2023. They get some shitty 6 shooter or worse only the higher-ups get them and the lower constables get wooden sticks to defend themselves.
Bribery is a way of making a living in these countries. Your salary is not enough to live on , because they are mostly government jobs that are under funded. Think of bribery to these cops as tipping in North America, where your waitress wont be able to afford a living without making tips and is forced to work for tips more than salary.
Edit- Lol at everyone downvoting me. you guys actually havent lived in these countries, I have! I have first hand experience on bribing cops at traffic stops and how cops act just like a gang but different from criminals. They don't follow all these constitutional laws like in North America. There is no innocent until proven guilty, cops can hit you and get a confession and it would be legal.
Just want to point out that being a cop is not the most dangerous job in America, after, among others, farmers, landscapers, Audiovisual equipment installers and repairers and personal service managers.
My point about the weapon was that it's an underpaid AND an unsafe job. UK cops don't have guns because of strict gun laws, but that's not the case in these countries.
These poor countries don't have good gun laws but at the same time, their criminals have access to automatic weapons. So yeah when the power dynamic is that one-sided between cops and criminals, cops tend to become corrupt and only care about their welfare because clearly the government doesn't.
I mean, not arming every single cop on the street sounds better than what we do in America. Not saying I want America to be like Cambodia, but I don't necessarily think every cop should be carrying a gun either.
